    Shooting the New Trade Gun

I wear bifocal's too and can't see the rear site. I recently got multi focal contact lenses as I need them for martial arts (Thai Boxing) and I can actually shoot real well with open sites now! might be worth looking into?

    Cva mountain rifle price check

You probably saw my post last year about my Big Bore ."54" I got when my dad passed last year. He only shot it twice and it didn't shoot great. The bore seemed really big for a 54. The barrel is stamped 54 caliber, and I have the original instructions that came with the kit and they are for a...

Squirrel hunting with the traditions 50 cal.

Yup a traditions 50 rifled barrel. it actually shoots a real decent pattern at up to 15m. Definitely good enough for close grouse and rabbits.

Squirrel hunting with the traditions 50 cal.

Unseasonably warm for end of Nov. would be 0 F or so. it was 0 C , so about 30 F. Almost no snow either. Squirrels are actively trapped here and are sold like all other fur. Ours are sold through the North American Fur Harvesters auction. It's used for glove trim. I trap lots of them on pole...

Squirrel hunting with the traditions 50 cal.

FYI, how I load this for shot is 50 gr. FF, paper shot cup, 7/8 oz. of 6 shot, and a felt wad over shot. It works great for grouse and rabbits at 10-12m normal distances for grouse here.

Squirrel hunting with the traditions 50 cal.

I've been hunting deer with my dads CVA big bore Mountain rifle (I have a thread on that already) but my daughter and S.I.L were up this weekend. We were unsuccessful in getting her a deer though. It was a beautiful Nov. day here in Alberta and it has been unseasonably warm. My S.I.L. never grew...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

Building my forge this winter and a HB camp knife is on my list of first to make. If it doesn't work I may have to get Rune to make me one, he lives just up the road from me and makes some beautiful knives.

    Ol’ Reliable does it again!

Just a question, you're shooting a .440 ball in a 20 gauge? How thick is the patch?

Heading to the woods with my dad's big bore Mountain Rifle tomorrow.

Update for 2023. Got the rifle loaded, possibles bag and horn ready. The Capote and haversack are by the door. Heading to the woods tomorrow to pick up where I left off last season. I have a buck tag this year and they’re running hard so hopefully can call one in for the Big bore.

Anyone use shotgun lock for a pistol?

Sat down with my bag of parts today and there isn't enough right side parts to make a right side lock. As I'm actually left handed, I shoot pistols left handed but rifles right handed, I could build a left handed pistol!

Anyone use shotgun lock for a pistol?

Unknown to me as they just came in a bag. Supposedly the father who passed was quite a muzzleloader guy and tinkered and built quite a bit?
