Anyone use shotgun lock for a pistol?

    That's interesting.

Anyone use shotgun lock for a pistol?

I bought a bag of miscellaneous parts at an estate sale. There was 1/2 dozen shotgun locks, left and right side. Wondering about using one for a scratch pistol build? only issue is the shape may not work to support the drum? May be more interest from shotgun guys to buy these locks and then I'd...

    Atv's

Very good post and it Mirror's my own opinion. I do hunt a long ways from help and where there is no cell service. I use an inreach satellite communicator so my wife has peace of mind when I'm gone several days at a time. Up here in Canada our current governments reaction to problems is to ban...

Heading out with the smoothbore tomorrow.

Had a great walk, no grouse though. Saw a few deer but only bow season right now.

    Atv's

Tree stand and game camera theft here is quite bad in open public land areas close to roads. Just read a post from a fellow who had his bow stolen out of his tent while he was out hunting with his rifle.

    Atv's

I use an ATV to get to remote hunting areas on designated trails, then hunt on foot. We go back 20 miles then hunt moose on foot. Maximum 1.5 miles from the trail as it takes about 8-9 hours to carry a moose out that far. We are a big country here so people are pretty spread out and after August...

Heading out with the smoothbore tomorrow.

Going to take my finished smoothbore and horn for a walk tomorrow and see if I can get some grouse.

Buffalo horn to go with the smoothbore I just built

Yup took some elbow grease for sure. Used a cabinet scraper mostly. I finished the horn with 2 coats of Tung oil, then 2 coats of a mix of bees wax and bear tallow grease. Good eye on the moose marrow bone rings on my possibles bag.

Buffalo horn to go with the smoothbore I just built

I’ve sewn loops of it on canvas for stake out ties, and we always used it for snow shoe bindings too.

Buffalo horn to go with the smoothbore I just built

I built a .54 cal smoothbore as a poor man’s trade rifle. I wanted a rustic horn that would be something a free trapper might have had. Horn was a raw horn I sourced here locally from the abattoir. I made the plug from a piece of dry birch I cut here. The end plug and tip plug I cut from a dry...

    Traditions smoothbore first range report

Was finally able to get some .530 round balls to try. The .535 I had already were too tight to use a good patch. Will hit the range again next week and see how these work.

How many of your rifles have killed deer?

I have 2 that haven't harvested yet. My 58 Cal CVA big bore that was my late fathers that came to me last year. Hope to get a doe with that this year. I also just finished building a 28 gauge (.530 RB) smoothbore on a traditions Kentucky base with a colerain barrel. Also hope to get a deer with...

    Traditions crockett kit arrived

I really want one of these rifles but can't get one in Canada. I'm checking to see if I can get one shipped to a Montana shipping outlet and drive down and get it. I'm also checking with our Border Services to see if it's an issue.

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

My range report on my 54 (28) smoothbore is in this forum too. I also had good luck with a .53 PRB, #6 and #2 shot. hoping to try for a turkey in the spring!

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

Sounds like the good old .535 PRB is the way to go.

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

Is yours an actual shotgun barrel which is much thinner than a smoothbore "rifle" barrel, which mine is. It's considerably thicker than a shotgun barrel. Is that why you wouldn't shoot buckshot in yours?

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

I just built a 54 cal (28) smoothbore as a poor man’s trade rifle. I have shot “shot” loads of about 200 grains from my TC Hawken for grouse and rabbits and it worked ok. I was just at the range yesterday with the new smoothbore and tried 7/8 oz of #6 and #2 shot and it actually patterned pretty...

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

Even a larger bigger size like #2, wonder how it would work on deer close? Have to see if I can get a Lee buckshot mold and play around I guess.

Buckshot loads in a 28 gauge smoothboe

Did a search and there isn’t much. Read a little and sounds like #3 or #4 would be the way to go. Anybody done this? If a #4 only weighs 21 grains, how many do you use in a load?

    Traditions smoothbore first range report

I have a build thread on the builders forum. This was something I put together from kit pieces and a Colerain 28 gauge (54 cal) octagon to round (last 4") barrel.
