What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

That was my thought with the 1/4-28, pretty easy to get a drill and tap at local machine supply store.

What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

Any reason to go with the 1/4-32 rather than the 1/4-28?

What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

I like the idea of just hand filing in the dove tails,

What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

My barrel will be octagon to the end of the stock, then round for the last 4” past the stock. Since the shipping to Canada from the US is crazy I want to try and get everything from one place in one order. I’m only ordering a front site, barrel lugs and maybe a side plate so not a big order. Do...

What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

Why solder on the lugs? Are you thinking the wall will be too thin once the dove tail is cut? I can cut a shallow dove tail in the flat like the original barrel has. As I now have a new traditions kit for this barrel I will be drilling the pins through the stock and not have to line up old holes...

What size vent liner for my Colerain smoothbore Traditions Kentucky project

I have a 54 cal smoothbore 7/8” octagon barrel coming from Scott for my Traditions Kentucky flintlock. I will be ordering barrel tenons, sight etc. from TOTW and will need to order a vent liner to install. I don’t need it to match the thread size of my old 50 cal barrel but am new to this and am...

    Just getting started

I just grabbed a NIB traditions Kentucky 50 cal kit of Canadian Gunnutz for a good price. Going to use all but the barrel to make my poor man’s trade rifle with the 54 cal smoothbore barrel I have coming from Colerain.

Swapping locks on Traditions Kentucky from percussion to flint.

Pulled the trigger on the Traditions kit in the gun swap. Will make the smoothbore with the stock and all parts from the kit except the lock. Will use my lock from my other Kentucky for now. Will try and get another lock for the old one or will put the percussion lock and new barrel on the old...

Swapping locks on Traditions Kentucky from percussion to flint.

I have a smoothbore barrel coming from Colerain to put on my Traditions flintlock 50. I saw a percussion Traditions on a gun swap in Canada for a good price. I was hoping to get the kit and then build it with the smoothbore and make it a flintlock rather than percussion. Could do a little work...

Swapping locks on Traditions Kentucky from percussion to flint.

I’m building my smoothbore Kentucky flintlock project right now. I have an opportunity to buy an un assembled Traditions Kentucky percussion kit for a pretty good price. Rather than swap the barrel on my existing flintlock, I’m wondering if a Traditions flint lock will drop in to the inletted...

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

Wick does the blade stay open just from friction or is there a lock of some sort?

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

Being a trapper, for skinning I actually just use a small knife on the hind legs to the vent, then the rest I just pull away with my hands. For beaver my preferred knife is like a little patch knife. I think the sharp point trade knife is what I'll make as my carry knife and I have a little...

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

So the grind more like the English trade knife? Brand new to knife making, did you mean "Convex"? Mr. Google has nothing for "Covex"? Do you think that Lewis and Clark Trader knife shape would be better than the English Trade knife shape? Can make one of each! I have access to lots of used...

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

That's about what I was thinking would work. Took a knife making course last spring, and am just building my forge so this will be one of my projects this summer.

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

As I live and trek right here in David Thompson Country, at the head of the North Saskatchewan river, I am setting myself up to be relatively period correct for some trekking. I will be trekking along the North Sask in areas travelled by Thompson from the time of his travel through the Howse...

    Just getting started

Welcome. Check (very often as they go quick) Canadian gunnutz site in the exchange. There was just a nice TC Hawken 50 for $350! sold quick though. Shotguns are more scarce and pricey. Just got a Traditions Deer hunter for my SIL off Gunnutz for $250.00. Cabela's Canada has the traditions...
