1137 vs 12L14 for muzzleloader barrels

As I recall the Douglas barrel that let go was seriously overloaded or otherwise compromised. Douglas chose to quit making M/L barrels rather than expose themselves to further litigation by people trying to magnumize a black powder firearm.

    Rough barn gun

One thing that struck me when removing the lugs on the castings was mentioned. There are 2 types. One type is inlet and pinned to hold the part to the stock. The other type is actually a pour hole and a vent or two for the mold to allow air to escape so there are no air bubbles or void in the...

    Lock stuck in stock

Is it just my eyes and small phone screen or does the butt plate still have a mold line? And what's with the screw? Anymore $1200 is about what you'd pay for parts. I prefer to deal with Pecatonica, the few times I've called I have found the owner courteous and informative.

BEWARE OF FEDEX AND COLLECTING TEXAS.

Sign up for a Fed Ex account even if you don't use them. Others do. You can specify where you want your package left. If it isn't left where you want, call and complain. Call even if you don't have an account. Fed Ex left a package of medical supplies in our driveway during an all day rain. I...

Neighbors tree has a wasp nest in it

Another thing to consider. These are not bees where it's one and done. These boogers keep stinging until they get tired..... which they don't. They're Satans Spawn.

Neighbors tree has a wasp nest in it

I have a friend who ran across a hornet's nest in winter while deer hunting. He thought it would make a nice decoration for the den so he cut the branch and took it home. In about two hours he had a house full of angry hornets. Took him two days before he could return home after calling an...

    Hunter Harassment

I heard this story years ago, it might be apocryphal but here it is. Supposedly a group of hunters here in western Pa in the Laurel Ridge area were met on opening day by a group of antis who followed them into the woods, this was before hunter harassment laws. They didn't make a lot of noise...

    Heres a challenge for you

The ingenuity of that peep sight makes me think that it belonged to some one who was serious about his shooting. I'd preserve it just the way it is unless you can find a competent person to restore it without making it look like brand new. It's a wonderful gun, your friend should be proud of it.

Welcome from Rostraver Twp. I used to shoot with Washingtons Mill Long Rifles back in the 70's. I believe they folded up some years ago.

    Carrying Heavy Revolvers

I'm going off on a tangent here but when I carry, I want the pistol concealed. If a goblin shows up he's going for the person who looks like a threat first. I wanna surprise him. My CCW is a small, flat, unmentionable with an easily reloaded extra magazine carried in a IWB holster. If I can't...

    Remember your First ML kill?

My first ML kill was also my first deer kill. I never hunted till I was 27 because no one in my family did but I had been shooting since I was 8 and shooting BP with an original .36 percussion rifle since I was 14. In 1976 I was hunting the Pa. ML season after Christmas with 3 friends on game...

    Powder horn sizing plug

Oil is used to shape horns because you can heat it to over 300 degrees. Get the oil much hotter and you'll French fry your horn.
