    Loaded for 30 Years

Anything in particular bothering you? Or just cautious by nature? If you have any concerns, put it securely in a rest and fire it at arms length or even use a lanyard. Personally, I wouldn't be overly concerned about using it.

Cant Identify This Muzzleloader "The Conjuring"

Sometimes you just have to enjoy the stories for the entertainment. Been on a few tours which included healthy doses of pure el toro poopoo.

    Just call me “dry ball”

Hi Dry Ball. Pleased to meet you. There are some interesting names on here.

Need new sights — Kensight maybe?

As longcruise asked; have you changed ball size or patching? Can you confirm that your patching hasn't changed in thickness from the nominal, even if still from the same source?

Williams Tang Peep Sight for TC Hawkens & Renegades

I've got an older one on my TC Hawken. Quite like it. My only problem was needing to drill another hole in the tang to mount it. If you prefer peep sights for whatever reason, such as getting to THAT stage of life, I think you'll find it useful.

Max loads for short barrels ?

I fail to understand how the Davenport can predict accuracy but perhaps it could somehow. Conical being heavier weight for caliber than a round ball should require more powder to achieve the same velocity for at least two reasons. Greater inertia and longer bearing surface creating more...

Max loads for short barrels ?

When are you wasting powder? When you're reaching for greater performance than required or unburnt powder is wasted coming out of the barrel. If you're happy with the energy and accuracy your gun produces, why reach higher? I would think that most hunters want the most power balanced with the...

Scored a deal? I hope nobody pees on my parade.

Went to a not very local gun show today, not really shopping for anything in particular. Seldom see much muzzleloading stuff, $80 (Cdn) powder has ceased to be a shock or even much of a disappointment. Such is life. But all in all more muzzleloading guns than normal. As I'm strolling down...

Barrel wedge fit and accuracy ?

If you're really worried about it, find a way to firmly and consistently seat the wedge. I'm personally inclined to think that unless your rear sight is tang mounted, and not both rear and front mounted on the barrel, you won't find an issue with small inconsistencies. Even if it is tang...

History (or any other subject) was not my strong suit in school.

    Shooting over snow ?

Pretty sure that any powder not burned up in the barrel will do so before it falls to the ground. If it doesn't, personally I'd be looking for better powder.

    measuring out powder 11/28/2008 post

I don't recall right off the top of my head who standardized wheat at 7000 individual grains of it in a pound. I believe it was a Roman ruler and IIRC Durum was their most common. Hence the 7000 grains in a pound. Anybody in a position to see if you can get approx 50 grains in that volume of...

    measuring out powder 11/28/2008 post

Yes. It is possible to get more powder in a given measure. A couple possible ways. But, I bet almost everybody pours to fill the measure and doesn't worry about getting even more in. Otherwise you are making a 50 gr measure into a 53, 54, 55, etc. Do it however you want.

    Alberta Black Powder

Received an email from ABPA. Contact Ken Steinhauer at 780-289-6346 by Sept 15. He's putting an order in. For folks in the south, my job enables me to get loads up to Edmonton or Grande Prairie so maybe some shipping can be saved if you're not in a particular rush.

Best Caliber for Targets, 100 Yards & Less

Since you won't be able to control conditions each time you go out, a heavier projectile stays more "true". That is, bucks the wind better, different humidity, etc. Work up the most accurate load for the heaviest caliber you feel like handling and go for it. Book learning and ballistic...

what do you use when swabbing between shots?

Spit patch followed by dry patch after every shot.

Smoke pouring from barrel after fired

Curious; does the density or duration of the smoke change with wind speeds?
