    Lyman GPR part 3

If you keep the adjustable rear sight on the rifle and finally get it shooting the way you like, I suggest putting a small wooden wedge under the sight(like a matchstick) to keep things locked in and secure. The only thing keeping tension on the adjustment screw is that weak little spring. It...

    Cappers?

Take it for what it's worth, but none of my Ted Cash cappers (all three styles) will work with RWS caps. The caps are just a smidge too long and bind up in all three cappers. Another vote for the universal, one-size-fits-all, make it yourself leather capper.

    TOW Powder Advice

Uncle Ned Roberts(The Muzzleloading Caplock Rifle)says that "rifles of 38 caliber and larger usually give the best accuracy with FG powder, while those of smaller bore do best with FFG" but allows that some rifles of 40 and 45 caliber shoot best with FFG. I'm going to give Goex FG a tryout in...

    Pedersoli Rocky Mountain reveiws ?

Gents and Ladies: The wind calmed down yesterday and I put a few rounds thru my new Pedersoli Hawken. Off the bench at 65 yds using 80 gr. of Elephant 2F, Hornady .530 ball, .010 prelubed patch and RWS cap gave a three shot group of about 2". The first two shots were touching and the...

    early powder

I cannot add much to the wealth of information presented here. Ned Roberts in "The Muzzleloading Cap Lock Rifle" contends that in his time Curtis and Harvey "Diamond Grain" powder was the best, followed by Hazzard's "Kentucky Rifle" brand. "American Dead Shot" powder made by the American...

I worked in Cabela's gun department for 12 years and still get an employee discount. I paid $729.46.

    Pedersoli Rocky Mountain reveiws ?

Because of the positive reviews of this rifle, I drove over to the Sidney, Nebraska Cabela's store and picked up one for myself. I haven't shot it yet but it looks darn good. Fiddleback maple stock, nice inletting, color case hardened metalwork, good stock finish and all screws are "timed" so...

    Lyman Great Plains

You might also check to see if the wood around the lock plate is "proud", causing the hammer to rub and slowing things down. I've seen this on a lot of Italian muzzleloaders in my years of retail gun sales.

Changing out hammers on a Lyman Great Plains?

I have a .54 percussion LGP and have never really liked the skinny profile of the hammer. I also have a Browning Mountain Rifle which has a more authentic Hawken hammer. Any of you old timers know of a correct looking replacement hammer that would have the right length and arc to work properly?
