    CVA Mountain Rifle questions

Check the trigger guard, butt plate and ramrod thimbles with a magnet or just clean a spot n the but plate and apply some browning or bluing solution. That should let you know if the parts are steel. The parts from the TC Hawken won’t readily fit if at all.

    CVA Mountain Rifle questions

Clean up the barrel and see what you have. You could plum brown the barrel, trigger guard and butt plate. The nose cap is basically pewter. That’s the color it is. Give the stock a little TLC. That may be all it needs.

    LOP question...........

I agree with the clothing for starters. Wear a heavier shirt when shooting the shorter stocked rifle. That will give you a little extra length if you need it. You could wrap some leather or something similar around the butt plate to extend it to see if that helps. Wiscoaster...

Traditions Hawken .50 on consignment at local gun shop

See if they will negotiate the price. Do you know how long it has been for sale in the store ? You might mention in your own way about freeing up shelf space for other items that might move faster. First, ask to handle the rifle. CHECK THE BARREL to see if it’s loaded. Have a small...

    Country of Turkey CNC Work

I agree with the statement about most products are foreign made. For shoes, there are still one or two made in the US. For car parts, another true statement. But, I recently bought an American made windshield for my vintage/ classic car. It cost me twice what the Chinese one was going...

Need advice on collection of 4 unopened 1970s kits I just purchased

My experience with the Classic Arms kits was unfavorable. I bought their first offering, the pepper box kit. It was supposed to be made in the USA. After paying for it, I received several letters from the company saying the delivery would be in a few weeks, then months. It took over a...

    Front Sight Installation

For me, the sight slopes forward toward the muzzle. The back side of the sight blade is more perpendicular, like on the TC Hawken or Patriot target pistol. I like even lighting on both sides of the front sight as viewed through the rear sight. Then even lighting across the top of both...

    Mystery Kentucky Flintlocks?

Those are Jukar/ CVA pistols. Probably from the late 1960’s to mid to late 1970’s. I have one of those from 1973. They are early versions based on the stamped flat triggers. Yours might be a little later because of the dovetailed front sight. That came out after I got mine. And the rear...

    Scrimshaw on Black?

On a scrap, try brushing on a clear sealer over the area. You can get the latex base folk art type paint and sealer at the hobby store. Sealer first, then paint. Gently rub with 0000 steel wool to remove the paint from the high spots. You could put sealer back over the filled areas. Polish...
