    No Sights?

cowboy action has lost it's way. They have forgotten that it is possible to be as fast as greased lightning and accurate at the same time. We went from Annie Oakly shooting pennies out of the air to guys thinking they are good shooters for hitting a 20x30 inch rectangle at 10 ft.

Bullseye Shooting with Pietta Navys, some random observations

If its easy show me the money. The army and the Govt write everything down. If the army wanted a pistol that shot 10 inches high at 25yards which in my experience is still 10" high at 50 yards they would have that in writing. Show it to me.

Bullseye Shooting with Pietta Navys, some random observations

That's exactly what I want to see. A Manuel of arms stateing that the 1851 Navy is zeroed at 75 yards. BTW I use the exact same zero for 15 to 50 yards for all my black powder pistols.

Bullseye Shooting with Pietta Navys, some random observations

Its silly to continuously repeat an urban myth without any written evidence that the revolvers were actually designed to shoot high instead of point of aim. I am blaming a really crappy sight system until proven otherwise. Show me an actual request by the defense dept that the revolvers come...

    Spru possition

Its been my experience that most of the bad outcomes in matches come from between my ears... 92 Miller Invitational after stage 7 I was in 16th place over all with all the big names , Barnhart, Mikluk, Rob Latham etc. after stage 8 I was in 135th.... I took the time to go through all...

Owners of original (not modern replicas) C&B revolvers, do you shoot them?

seems steep for the condition and it being a pocket pistol?

Owners of original (not modern replicas) C&B revolvers, do you shoot them?

I wouldn't bother buying one that I couldn't shoot. I don't like fancy. I prefer battle grade. Functions perfectly but has lots of character.

Owners of original (not modern replicas) C&B revolvers, do you shoot them?

I always felt that was just for show on pawn stars. Any competent gunsmith or even experienced shooter can tell if a gun is going to function without actually firing it. timing is good. bore and cylinder in good condition, nipples in good condition. its going to go bang. that being said if I...

yes but this careful location of the sprue is my rabbits foot without which I would surely miss that critical shot ;)

    Spru possition

I shot two cylinders through the 1858 after work yesterday. I hit 25yrd 5" steel and 35yrd 6" steel. I am sticking with my new sideways sheared off sprue position. It's the magic elixir ;)

    Spru possition

absolutly it was probobly just a gud day. However I still think sliceing the sprue off is marginaly a better idea than trying to place it in the center of the top of the cylinder which is pretty much impossible to do by hand.

Flintolock pistol rises, never hit the target :-(

My first thought on the horseman shooting gangsta style was he was trying to keep the powder in the pan. doug. get a large piece of cardboard . something from an appliance box etc. bench and sandbag the pistol to find out whats happening so that you have a base to start with.

    Spru possition

My thought is that if there is an air bubble under the sprue the act of swageing into the cylinder will hopefully crush and fill that void. trying to center the sprue is pointless as it won't ever be perfectly centered doing it by eye. Slicing the sprue off with the edge of the cylinder...

    Spru possition

The sprue gets sliced right off when I seat the ball. I watch it happen. . the unscientific part of my post is that I did this and my accuracy improved dramatically. there is no real proven fact here because I was shooting off hand and changing my sight picture as well. Keeping in mind that...

    My recent purchase for $180.00

good looking pistol be he obviously forgot that he shot it a bunch or he shipped the wrong gun ;) as it has obviously been used quite a bit judging from the wear on the cylinder.

    Spru possition

This is completely un scientific. yesterday when loading my 1858 I placed the sprue up against the side of the cylinder wall so that it would shear off while seating. I had the best shooting session ever with that pistol hitting my steel at the same distances as my le page. of course it also...

    Critical shot placement

shooting paper puts me in a comma and I can not get on board with taking 3 min to make one shot. you say you can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight but with a 1911 I can make shots up so fast that it's still darn hard to beat. saying that all guns should be treated as single shot is nice but...

    Critical shot placement

Most of the steel matches I have shot you could keep shooting until you knocked them all down but the clock is running.

    Critical shot placement

One of the things I find so intriguing/ adicting about muzzleloader shooting is how critical each shot is. With unmentionables when you miss its its easy to rip off rappid fire makeup shots. With the muzzel loader when you miss its a done deal. I find this especially obvious when shooting...

    Confederate Revolvers

KH you are the one who needs to read history. BTW you don't get to fire your bow shot and then expect no return fire just because you say lets get back to guns now. I am actually very well read in the history dept. please start with reading the articles of secession from Virginia, South and...
