    TC 45,50,54 mould

Every gun is different. I only have a 50. It doesn't like 495s at all. It likes 490s with a thick patch. Buy a variety of balls and try them before getting molds.

    Flintlock storage

I agree with the previous answers, but oddly in European museums they keep them frizzen closed at half-cock.

    Original loading gear

Back in the day they generally used premade cartridges and didn't load loose powder and ball.

Question about knapping flint edge in the jaws of the cock

I use a very small brass hammer that is the T handle for my screw driver. Frizzen open, half cock, index finger of left hand under the flint and gently tap away.

    C.V.A. double barrel 12 guage

I have a CVA sxs 12 gauge and shoot patched 690 balls with no problem.

    Thompson Center Barrel Sizes

A guy at TC did extensive tests on barrel length. He found that after 28 inches it was a case of diminishing returns which is why they chose 28 for their Hawkins

    Cleaning some round balls

I live in an old house in Denver. The water company recently gave us a Brita pitcher and directions to not drink or cook with unfiltered water due to our service line being lead until they could replace it. I've lived here 30 years with no apparent ill effects, but we use the pitcher. Water does...

    Muzzleloader Magazine vs Muzzle Blasts

I too get both and have for many years. Both have had dramatic increases in quality recently.

    Thompson center hawken 1"48

The 1 in 48 twist is about the most authentic thing about a TC Hawken. That's what the origonals had.

    Muzzle blast magazine

I've been an NMLRA member since about 1980. The last year or so the magazine has really improved. I'd recommend it.

    What was your first Muzzleloader?

I never owned any kind of gun before but qualified with a 38 in the AF. In 1979 the USAF sent me to Loring AFB, Me where the weather is 11 months of winter and 1 month of bad sledding. I figured I needed a hobby. I started with a CVA derringer kit for $25 from Woolco. Then moved up to a CVA...

    Horn and antler?

I built a poorboy once with a piece of antler at the top of the butt and a toeplate. Much easier than installing a butt plate, it protected the butt and looked sharp.

Coldest temp you have ever shot in a match?

It wasn't-13, but I did a Seneca run on snowshoes once with the Penobscot Muzzleloaders in Maine once. It was cold enough that you needed snowshoes.

Cleaning Hoppes gun oil from bore

I had never heard of the problem with petroleum products with black powder until I joined this forum, and I started shooting BP in 1979. I've used a lot of Hoppe's in the orange bottle with no problem. You don't pour it down the barrel. You just put a little on a patch and swab it. Then use a...

    Another Combustible Cartridge Thread

I have zero experience with cap revolvers, but it seems like if you load with the spru to the side it would be shaved off anyway. Comments.

    Patch Material

In my TC 50 cal I've tried lots of combinations. A 490 ball with 20 thousands patch works the best. Shallow rifling doesn't always mean thinner patch. Every gun is different.

    Dry ball idjit

The toughest one to fix is when you thought you dryballed but didn't. You never can get that sucker out. Don't ask how I know about that.

Origonal Hawkens used a tabbed washer. I put one on my TC.
