    Tips for carving spirals?

Question for you guys that stab in - do you use that method for incised carving also?

    Tips for carving spirals?

Thanks guys, that's helpful. I'm using a Pfeil v gouge so I have a quality chisel, I just need to get my skills up to par.

    Tips for carving spirals?

Now that you point it out, it kind of looks like a dog vomiting😀

    Tips for carving spirals?

I thought I had my chisels pretty darn sharp, but blowing up the image really shows the truth of the matter. I've been stropping them frequently while cutting but maybe they need a touch up on the stone. Is there any way to touch up the rough edges, if I end up with them on the real deal...

    Tips for carving spirals?

Wow, seeing the work blown up on a computer screen really highlights all the imperfections 🙂

    Tips for carving spirals?

I've been practicing both relief and incised carving in preparation for the Kibler Colonial kit I have ordered. I'm kind of loosely basing my carving ideas on rifle #87 from Rifles of Colonial America Vol II. Overall I feel like I'm making good progress and getting closer to the point where I...

    Apple Cart Creations

I'm not hugely concerned about having PC gear, although if the reenactment bug bites me in the future I could see myself going that direction. I mainly just bought the knife because I liked the other one I had. I definitely see what you're saying about the sheath...while it's a nice sheath...

    Apple Cart Creations

The other day I decided I wanted another Jeff White knife to compliment the French trade knife I bought years ago. I found that Apple Cart Creations has some in stock along with matching sheaths, so I ordered the Longhunter knife a couple of days before Christmas. The day after I ordered I...

    Good place to buy horns?

I am gathering accessories for my first flintlock rifle, and not knowing any better I bought a cheap powder horn off of ebay. Well, now I know not to do that again. What a piece of junk. So my next question is, where is a good place to buy supplies to make my own horn? I have a lathe and can...

Where do you buy your stock blanks?

Oof, that inletting is ugly. I don't blame you for starting with a blank.

Where do you buy your stock blanks?

IMA used to have replacement stocks available. I think they were made of some kind of Indian or Nepalese wood but I've seen guys online who stained them to look correct.

    Powder and Guns

Interesting, apparently wherever I read about FedEx Ground being the only carrier was wrong. I wish they would use UPS, FedEx is a mess. I had to ship a laptop overnight for work a few months ago and used them. And of course, it showed up late.

    Powder and Guns

Unfortunately, as I understand it Fedex Ground is the only shipper who will accept black powder. I just had a delivery of it arrive today from Buffalo Arms. It showed up 2 days late. Fedex used to be a very reliable carrier, but not anymore. I'm generally not concerned if something arrives a...

    Patience grasshopper

Yep. The supply chain is a trainwreck right now and I'm certainly not going to hold it against Mr. Kibler if there's a delay. His products are in high demand and I assume he's dealing with the same issues sourcing materials that everyone else is. The other day I went to the local hardware...
