    Measuring a Dovetail Cut?

This is probably a simple question for you experienced builder but I want to replace a front sight and need to know how to measure the dovetail to order the proper base. How is that done--spot 1) or spot 2) or 3) somewhere/how else? Thanks Bob!

Shot Question for California Smoothbore Shooters

Placed this in the regional forum and was kindly directed here. I had a hunting trip to AZ planned for late Jan. but the trip fell apart, so I began rolling around the idea of going to northern CA to hunt squirrels, when I remembered CA has a ban on lead shot. Is that correct? And if so, what...

    Question for California Smoothbore Shooters?

My late Jan. hunting trip fell apart, so I began rolling around the idea of going to northern CA to hunt squirrels, when I remembered CA has a ban on lead shot. Is that correct? And if so, what substitute do you fellas use for shot in your smoothies? Thanks, OB

Conical Question for Cynthialee (et al)

Moonman, now that you mention it, I think I may have heard that before. I stand corrected. mtmike, I'm right there with you. This conical thing is new to me, but it's intriguing.

Conical Question for Cynthialee (et al)

My understanding is you can't, if by "calls for" means a true fast twist (1:18. 1:28. etc.). The twist rate is too fast and over stabilizes the lighter projectile. Likewise, a slower twist that is more suited to a PRB (say 1:66") is great for roundballs, but too slow to stabilize heavier...

Conical Question for Cynthialee (et al)

No problem. Hope you had a great time. I just got back from visiting family myself. I started this journey going the other way ... while I've shot PRB for more years than I care to admit, I've never shot a conical. I did buy a pack of TC Maxi-balls many years ago, but just never gotten...

Thanks Idaho Ron ... you've done it now

Yes, I have discovered that this "work" thing gets in the way of my hobbies! I have a TC Renegade I've had for decades and it may have an upgrade in it's future.

Thanks Idaho Ron ... you've done it now

So while I was having my morning coffee I saw your reply and watched your video on paper patching (thanks again, btw), so of course I had to watch the video about your "Hot Rod Hawken" while having my second cup. Well that's all I could think about at work today!!! :cursing: I couldn't wait...

Conical Question for Cynthialee (et al)

Thank everybody. I knew a loose fitting conical would likely slip, but guess I figured QC would be a bit more consistant between Mfgrs. Crazy thought I know. Idaho Ron, can you tell me how you make your PPs for a muzzleloader? I've seen vids for BP cartridge guns. Thanks, Bob

Conical Question for Cynthialee (et al)

Back in mid April in another thread Cynthialee said she had an issue with a conical coming off the powder and making to the end of the bore... I haven't used conicals before, but was thinking about giving them a try this year, and haven't heard of such. Can nayone tell me is this a regular...

    Howdy all ...

Just wanted to say, Hello. I've been lurking for awhile now and figured I'd better register. I've been shooting and hunting with black powder since the late '70s, but have just gotten into the historical end these last few years. So, I've begun to put together clothes, gun, pouch, horn...
