pietta 1858 new model cylinder issue

Seems like if the area that the ball sits in is the correct diameter and is aligned with the bore at full cock, it would be ok. The area that the powder sits in isn't so important, although having the same volume in each would be good of course.

    Ruger Old Army

At least for me, the fun in shooting cap and ball guns is in trying to re-create what it was like in those days. Using a modern design ruins that. I have an old 357 Blackhawk - works great and a vast improvement over the c&b stuff, but not as interesting to me.

In real life Civil War what was the most ways a revolver was loaded?

Somehow, whenever I hear about them using wax I can't help but envision holding a loaded revolver in one hand, a lite candle in the other, and thinking - ok what do I do next?

In real life Civil War what was the most ways a revolver was loaded?

I think there was story about Lee's gun - years after the war it was still loaded and there was some sort of wax or something on the caps. If they did that, they would probably also put some on the front of the cylinder. Loading it because you were were actually planning to shoot it soon would...

In real life Civil War what was the most ways a revolver was loaded?

Like TDM said, paper cartridges were made in vast quantities for those who were issued revolvers. For someone who just happened to have one, anything goes but a powder horn would have been quite old fashioned. I don't think grease was put in there at all.

    Uberti .31 1849 Pocket Power

Mike - I'm 75 and I actually do have heart palpations, have to take a damn pill once a day for that. It has absolutely nothing whatever to do with gun laws. I don't know who Wart or Ken are - is that important? I don't like gun laws and don't want any more of them, like probably all of us. I...

    Uberti .31 1849 Pocket Power

As far as that 68 law, isn't there something in it about them not firing commercially available ammunition? I also think those conversion cylinders aren't good for the hobby - new laws and new regulations can happen, why provoke them?

    Finally, the truth

Just when I was starting to think the entire internet was just a bunch of stupid foolishness, I ran across this. A well thought out, scholarly dissertation on the history of Vienna sausages - or something. I sure hope it is continued, I would love to learn more about Mr. Capi.

    Calvary holster pattern?

I think the cavalry revolver should be a 8 inch barrel, not the short version.

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

Bad Karma - on those Remington grips, I made a set for my old Navy Arms 44 out of walnut. I made them quite a bit thicker and longer. They cover up the frame on the bottom by a good 1/4 inch. They change the look of the gun, but no more little pinky under the grip stuff! I wish I knew how to...

So I was about to pull the Trigger on a nice Uberti 1858 but I think I might change my mind...

I recently bought a Uberti Remington - it's a really nice gun, you won't be sorry you bought it. I think the cap availability problem is starting to get better. My local Fleet Farm store has a bunch, not old stock they found, but a fairly new shipment of CCI 11's. 10's are hard to find but the...

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

Mike - why couldn't a copy of a product that was made 150 years ago be made as good as or better than the original? Modern steel is better, modern machine tools are more consistent, tolerances are able to be held much closer, engineering has progressed, etc. Sam Colt changed his design over the...

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

"Debatable" means able to be debated. Debate means discussed logically - both sides get to express their views.
