Vintage Remington central fire trimmed edge primers ??

The "#9" might mean they are too small to fit a normal nipple. I wouldn't be in a hurry to open any.

    Rip off

The Fleet Farm store here in Wis. has all four types of CCI primers on the rack for $13. They also have caps, I forget how much they were.

    Cylinder bore

The original poster asked about enlarging his .3725 cylinder bores somewhat in order to fit .380 bullets. The bullet has to be at least flush so that the cylinder can turn. Once the bullet is in that far and then hits a small shoulder it can probably be pushed a little farther if he wants to, or...

    Ruger Old Army

How could the Colt type be considered a closed frame? Take the barrel and cylinder off and look at the frame - is it a closed loop of any kind? The barrel attaches at one location - the wedge. The bottom just rests against the frame without resisting any forward motion. The "push" of the bullet...

    Hopkins & Allen under hammer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Pecatonica River company shows a kit for the underhammer rifle, and it shows a nice looking steel buttplate as part of the kit. That might be what you're looking for.

    Cylinder bore

Any machine shop could easily set up and precisely ream the cylinder holes to .375 (3/8 inch) because they will certainly have this size reamer. Some other diameter would be a little more complicated but still not hard to do. They should only be reamed far enough down to allow the bullet to sit...

    Anyone know what I have?

If the bore and groves are in reasonably good condition, the barrel could be used. The stock seems to be beyond use except as a decorative piece.

    Reference material on percussion revolvers?

The Donald Ware book on Remington revolvers is really good. Reference books that deal with technical stuff like serial numbers, models and variations, etc. are worthwhile buying. Books dealing with "value" and prices - interesting to look at but not (at least to me) very worthwhile.

    Nipple Repairs

That sounds like an interesting "teensy" project. At least you weren't tying up the biggest lathe in the place!

    Nipple Repairs

It seems like any sort of filler material would be destroyed by the heat and pressure almost immediately.

    Swivel gun

I don't completely understand how this works, which part swivels?

    H&A Underhammer Pistol Wooden Grip

I have a 36 cal version of this pistol. I made a replacement grip because I didn't like the angle they had. I copied the size and angle of a 45 auto, that angle seemed just right for me.

    Underhammer pistol kits?

Pecatonica River shows a Hopkins and Allen type receiver for $185. They are intended for a rifle, but maybe could be made into a pistol. You don't get much for $150 today, in gun stuff (or groceries).

    What Makes a "Better" Component?

"Better" is not easy to define. I remember a teacher in electronic engineering saying " there is no such things as advantages or disadvantages - just characteristics". He was talking about circuits, but that can apply to a lot of things.

    Underhammer question

I don't think there are any new parts available. Numrich Arms is still around, but they don't show those parts as being in stock. A spring could be made, but the hammer and trigger would be more of a challenge.

    Underhammer question

Does the trigger move freely? It should be spring loaded to snap forward by itself.
  17. J

    Underhammer question

That certainly isn't the way it should work - it sounds like the trigger spring is broken or missing, or the trigger pivot is stuck or bent. There are two notches in the hammer, the first one is the half cock and you shouldn't be able to pull the trigger to release it (don't do that).

    Deane-Adams replica?

It's nice, but I'd rather have the Remington 36.

    Did I ruin grips

There's a big milky white spot on my dining room table from setting something wet and hot there. It never goes away either.

Flintolock pistol rises, never hit the target :-(

RmFnLA - It definitely is physics, but you don't have it right. Recoil starts the instant the ball and the gas column start to move and continues as long as they are accelerating and are inside the gun. The speed of the ball plus the expelled gas times their mass will equal the speed of the...
