The wiping stick for my rifle has a threaded socket on the butt end. The wiping stick for my FdC is just plain wood. For the fusil, I have a separate range rod.
I see the value in posting a yes-it-can-be-done sort of video. As pipe smoker myself, I'd save the charcloth for a situation where I really need it. On a sunny day, as depicted in the video, I'd use a burning lens.

Enjoyed the video, Mark. Your results with the patched and then wadded .600" ball loads compare favorably to mine. Difference is I use a .610" ball. I'd say try the patched and unpatched .600" ball loads at 50 yds. and show us how that worked.
Yes, it can in my experience. I have ceased using it as a wad directly over the powder charge, and now moisten it before pushing it down atop the ball.
