    Snaphaunce Lock problems??

The "Anderson" who built the snaphaunce in the original post was from Texas. He worked on the movie sets of the original "Alamo" with John Wayne. He took care of the cannons. I am trying to get more information so you can document your snaphaunce. He also made this wheellock and it is currently...

At the CLA Show, Lexington 2025

It was a great show and as always, too much talent in one room! The CLA show attracts the "the best of the best". I am honored to have met many of the artists and learn from them. Everyone was willing to share their knowledge. Great show all! William aka PhDBrewer

    Ottoman Guns

He is also in the first image aiming into the air with his head down when firing. Based on the 2 images... He has nothing coming out the muzzle. Maybe he was trying to clear a stuck ball?

    Starting point for lock making

To clarify... For Lauber: Understand what all the parts are and how they go together. Some of his drawings showing how they go together are incorrect. If you know where the parts are supposed to go, put them there! if you know what the function of the part is, make it so that it functions. You...

    Starting point for lock making

Get a set of castings and start filing & shaping. After that you can explore forging the parts that you just built from the castings. Pick a easy lock to build. A large plate with no fly is the most simple. A real simple lock would be the "builders" lock set where you shape the plate, drill...

Cutting pyrite - easy w/ diamond Dremel discs

Use A small stream of water over the cutting blade. Cools the blade and eliminates all the dust. I have a piece of plexiglass to keep the water contained. Be safe! William

    Single set trigger search

Stans SST is very well made and functions well. However, one is not supposed to bend the lock plate to fit. I was going to install it on a small pistol and it is to large and the curve does not match. William

That is the same style of stock latching mechanism my "wolf killer" blunderbuss has. Mine is Italian from around 1720 or so... Neat! William

    Funky Flintlock

Great Workmanship. I guess this is for "giving someone your heart!" Heart bore is unique. Other I have handled are square and oval. I have not fired any of these and do not know how they would do with accuracy. Many new ideas were tested and the rich funded the projects. I like that the...

Making a hunting sword from a machete

Well... Since the machete material is flexible, keeps somewhat of an edge, does not snap when hit against a stone... yes. The functionality of the material is better than the average metal from the time period. Forging helps in the material properties mentioned above as well as conserving high...
