What Part Of Clean It Now Don't You Understand?

I'd like to find those people, strip them down, spray water on them, roll them in ash, and let them stay that way for a week until the lye starts eating their skin. Sounds like cruel and unusual punishment but so is the treatment they gave their muzzleloader! 😁 Walt

What Part Of Clean It Now Don't You Understand?

I do what I call Field Cleaning at the range before I leave. I run a few damp patches down until they come out light gray, followed by dry patches. I also wipe the fouling off the barrel down by the lock. I like to do a full disassembly and cleaning when I get home. The longest I've gone on...

How you clean pan & frizzen?

I mostly hunt targets but have always kept a damp cleaning patch on hand and wipe the flint, frizzen, and pan after every shot. Alcohol is one of the ingredients in my cleaner so fast drying. Walt

    How to apply patch lube.

I generally use precut patches. My goto lube is Bear Grease and Beeswax. I put a little on my thumb and rub it in one at a time. I do this while watching TV so it's not as time-consuming as it would be otherwise. Most patches have a rough side and a smooth. I only lube the smooth side...

    Stuck

I’ve had that problem before, but it was usually at the breech. If you’re using a Tapered Jag and a large cleaning patch (2” to 2.5”), the extra cloth balls up causing the rod to become stuck. I switched to a Button Jag and a smaller cleaning patch (1.5”), and it never happened again. Good...

Black Powder Banned at my Gun Club!

UPDATE! When the rain finally returned, they lifted the ban. It was on the Agenda at the next Board Meeting. They’re working on a Protocol for Extreme Fire Danger. We’re a club that also operates a Public Range with member-only ranges as well. Unfortunately, not all the Range Masters on the...

    Hawken accuracy problem

I’ve always liked Pillow Ticking. It creates an excellent gas seal. I prefer a thick lube vs. a liquid, especially for hunting. I have arthritis in my hands so use it pretty much exclusively because I find that it goes down easier. I experimented with T-7 in my side-lock percussion rifles but...
