A 1728 French musket is actually a rather easy kit to build. For all of the work and effort put into defarbing and Indian gun you might as well invest in the real thing. Shaping the barrel flats (which i would not do) stock shaping, barrel band cutting and welding, lock defarbing… you’re...

For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

No problem with people owning them. But i do have a problem with the false assertions they make about them being historically accurate, and up to the quality of an original Bess (fresh off the rack) and some other reproduction guns such Japanese made and Italian made reproductions. They’re...

For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

Not trying to speak for someone else but the point he was making that if he doesn’t know he asks, he doesn’t just throw conjecture and assumptions out there like …. A regular person coudln't pick out an original Bess from a line up of 10 Indian repro’s.

For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

Most of the guns i often have to service in my group are Indian made. I’m not going to throw some statistic at you, but its heavy majority. One of the reasons i no longer service Indian made guns is because it’s not worth my time to spend on them and it’s not worth their money dumping into a...

    Breech plug removal question.

That’s a matter of opinion. For cleaning, i don’t unbreech my guns, because it just doesn’t need to be done for cleaning. All that gets dirty is the face of the plug. I unbreech if there’s an issue, stuck ball, jag, broken rammer, installing vent liner etc. I do know people that routinely...

    TRS M1776 Rifle

I’m doing blind tapped holes on my kit, I’ve seen it done a few ways with soldered bushings (permanent fixture) and then with soldered ferels and a screw cap for the threaded end. I like the blind screw method personally.

    Breech plug removal question.

Hey just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean you need to tell others not to .

    Breech plug removal question.

Apples to oranges… removing a breach plug is not the same as reaming out a bore. It’s not that complicated.

    Breech plug removal question.

So practice doing it… and it’s not hard surgery. We’re talking about we’re talking about screwing a bolt. You don’t learn how to do something by being scared to do it and learn from your mistakes like I said prior get a cheap barrel get some tools that you need to do it and get to work...

    Breech plug removal question.

This is why you learn how to do it. Learn from experience don’t run from your limitations, exceed your own expectations, or continue living in a shadow of others who can do what you cant

    Breech plug removal question.

The OP stated that he wants to learn how to remove the breech plug, nothing wrong with a little knowledge.

    Bend the sear bar up?

Regards to the sear being further … you’ll have a dangling trigger. When I build I try to fit the trigger so contact is close almost self setting

    Bend the sear bar up?

Doesn’t look like it’s off the plate. No issue
  19. FlinterNick

    Bend the sear bar up?

Why would you bend it? Its where it is designed to be on the plate, the trigger contact is close, bending the sear will put it further away

    Breech plug removal question.

Agree, if not appropriately faced the plug could expand the breech. This is sorta of a common thing to find on originals, however they were making barrels out of iron, not steel. Anyhow, it just amazes me the folks here who are **** their pants at the though of removing a breech plug because...
