    Scottish Musket lock

Welding is pretty essential for me, but I recommend for lock work and even hardware a very small torch, i use the smith tiny torch or the even the medium light duty torch is good. It’s really just practice, and when i need to weld up in high detail i use a TIG welder, easy. MIG is easiest though...

    Scottish Musket lock

The original casting had a square that was very out of proportion. It was intended to just sit inside of a square cutout which was casted over. With the permission of the owner, I drilled and broached out the square, its much more effective and maintains an original style. I filed off the...

    Scottish Musket lock

Simple but every millimeter matters very much on this lock ,the location of the parts are very critical to its essential function. For example the sear tooth that engages the tumbler at full cock is very small, there wasn’t much purchase when it had assembled it, it needed around 1-2mm of...

    Scottish Musket lock

Good point, the Scottish at the time were very much influenced by catholic Spain it wouldn’t shock me if this lock was designed. Based off of Spanish locks. The mainspring is extremely strong for its size, its design and shape fits the early Spanish styles too.

1763 Heavy Model Charleville Barrel Comparison to a 1766

The measurement on the 1766 is because of the flat for the lock and there’s a tiny very small flat on the opposite side. My 1774 barrel is out of proportion side to side top and bottom and corners. the top to bottom measurement is different from the side to side, its almost like an oval...

1763 Heavy Model Charleville Barrel Comparison to a 1766

Sure i can do that, off the top of head i can tell you that the 1763 vs. 1766 breech is 1.450 to 1.275 and the muzzle is .860 and the 1766 is .840. The heaviest 1766 barrel I’ve seen was on the later models 1768, the barrels get larger as they move towards the 1770 era but not by much, the 1774...

1763 Heavy Model Charleville Barrel Comparison to a 1766

Here is a copy of a heavy model 1763 barrel i had made by Rice barrel co. Side by side with a 1766 barrel. I viewed four original barrels and the came up with an average concept of what a heavy model 1763 barrel is. the largest barrel was 1.610 tall and 1.525 wide, (moller’s 1763 now owned...

    Rebuilding a 1728 French Musket

I’ve got all the bands here from the rifle shoppe I can give you measurements, but its been tried before, generally will not work unless you cut the bands, i wouldn’t go spending tons of money on parts to see what works. The bands that will work best are the following 1763 rear band is the...

Who made this Jordan 1742 Long Land, and where could I find a barrel?

Lock is Japanese made, i recognize that mainspring 10 feet away. I would send the stock to Bobby Hoyt, he can match the barrel the stock.
