Well done. I am quite fond of the Isaac Haines pattern.

    Dang Priming Horns

To be honest, I have not encountered this problem. Is the plug especially tight?

    Getting started

TOW offers an 8 piece set that should get you started but I find there is always something different that I wish I had. Woodcraft.com has good quality but they are pricey. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1030/3/chisel-set-8

White Lightnin' touch hole liner, barrel rust

I have found that I may need to enlarge touch hole diameter based on barrel wall thickness. What works perfectly on a .40 or .50 caliber barrel may need to be opened up a bit on an 1 1/8" .54 swamped barrel.

    "Polishing" Leather

After reviewing the OP I'm not sure that polishing is the correct term. "Polishing" connotes imparting a luster or sheen and leather supply houses such as Tandy have many products available to do that. Photos of some "polished" items that I have made follow below. Since the bag appears to be a...

Can I fire blue the trigger on a kibler Fowler?

I kinda like the fire blued look myself. I make them rainbow.

    Uberti 1849 Colt

Uberti Quality Control seems to be a hit or miss proposition some times. You pays your money...and you takes your chances.

    Uberti 1849 Colt

The 1849 is a cute little shooter. Sam Colts best seller as I recall. I bought one years ago from Gander Mountain as they were having a sale. It was a Uberti. Nicely fitted and finished but the darn thing would not shoot. Close inspection revealed a pimple in the frame opposite the arbor and...

What size Dutch oven or potjie to be the only cast iron in a solo camp?

Agreed. Especially if one is travelling on foot, - unless very hungry or have benefit of a pack mule. I might also consider a reflector oven to save weight.

    Is Swiss Powder any good?

Its terrible stuff and you can send it to me....

1858 Remington History and cool stories.

Notice that like the photo of Billy The Kid, the image is reversed.

Patching over your powder charge …. then patching your ball

For many years I have been using a 12 gage felt OP wad in my .54 caliber rifles. I shoot rather heavy powder charges in my Hawken rifles because I like the resulting flat trajectory and the felt wad accomplishes two things. Number one, because the 12 gage wad is larger than bore diameter, when...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

This entire, very long thread strikes me as a bit unnecessary. The maximum load for an 1858 Remington or 1860 Colt Army or 1848 Dragoon or 1847 Walker is what ever volume of powder that can be loaded beneath the desired projectile and seated below the chamber mouth. That's all folks.

What caliber and style for you?

I like .50 and .54 cal. in the Lancaster pattern and the work of Isaac Haines.
