    Lead pouring blues

Lee molds are often not durable but the sizing is spot on. Unless you can be sure you are using dead soft pure lead then my guess would be the lead you are using is not pure.

For target shooting: Pedersoli‘s Mortimer or Tatham&Egg?

Scores are generally higher for rifled arms regardless of barrel length.

For target shooting: Pedersoli‘s Mortimer or Tatham&Egg?

As you stated a smoothbore is required for MLAIC matches. It will be tough to compete against a rifled barrel. For target shooting I believe the Tatham /Egg to be the better pistol as I like the design of the grip. Just make an attempt to view the actual pistol you wish to purchase as some...

Is pure lead really necessary for muzzle loading balls or bullet in rifle or hand gun ?

For round ball I always use very soft lead. Lead pipe and sheet are the best salvage buys for this stuff. For my slug and picket rifles I use pure refined lead because they shoot best with it. Using ******* alloys of unknown or inconsistent composition is likely responsible for many "bad...

    Flint knapping hammer ?

Knap the flint before it absolutely needs it: before it goes "klatch." I usually shoot entire matches without a single fail to fire.

How do you pull back the cock on your flintlock?

    Coning

I know of no earlier patents for a loading muzzle but if they were issued before cloth patched (picket) bullets were used they are meaningless as Clark's device was made to bullets in a choked bore. Any patents afterward were simply attempts to improve the Clark device: again meaningless as...

Not certain this will post but it is an excellent article on Alvan Clark's loading muzzle. I was incorrect when I said it was patented in the 1830's, as his patent was done in 1840.

Harold Robbins lock: one of the best ever made. All machined parts, you can't buy a better percussion lock today.

    Coning

Patent muzzles (loading muzzles, false muzzles) were invented in the 1830's for starting and loading a cloth patched bullet straight in the bore, which was often choked. That's all it was meant to do, facilitate loading.

I've known people who collected original bags and accouterments for many years. I have collected them too. Starters don't turn up with outfits known to be original. I believe the tight ball and patch combinations used today are largely the product of the gamesmanship at Friendship and other...

Shout Out to Log Cabin Shop

You can send the lock to them with a note stating what you need to have done or call them on the phone to discuss before sending.

    Muzzle velocity Hawken vs Longrifle

The most accurate muzzle loaders ever made had barrels under 30 inches in length.

Need help with an old Russ Hamm

I would send the lock to the Log Cabin in Lodi OH. The gunsmith there can repair your lock at reasonable cost.
