    Coning

I finished today, coning the third barrel of three that I was going to cone of my ML guns. I used the Joe Wood tools (.45 and ,54 calibers) and it could not have been easier. Joe even e-mailed me while I was coning the first to see if I was coming along okay on it. It helps to take the barrel...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Doing the coning on my final ML barrel that I am doing. Down to the polishing now with 320 grit. .54 caliber H&A Underhammer. Then I can talk about doing something other than coning! 🤪

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished coning the muzzle of a second BP gun I have, an H&A Underhammer replica in .45 caliber. I started it two days ago but got to gardening the next day and put it off until this morning. One more to do, a separate .54 barrel for the same action and stock. Joe Wood's coning tools and...

    MUZZLE CONING TOOL

I finished coning my Kibler Southern Mountain .45 this morning. I started last night and stopped before I started to make any mistakes. However, with the Coning Tool from Joe Wood here, it is pretty much impossible to make a mistake - SO LONG AS YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. I have two more...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

FINISHED coning my Kibler Southern Mountain. I will tell you, the hardest part is cutting the cone with the heaviest grit, and even that was not hard. It only took me about one long side strip of the 220 paper to get that done. Polishing with 320 and 400 paper was a breeze. I still have two more...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I started coning the barrel of one of my rifles. I have two more round ball barrels to do after that one. Started about 5:30 PM, but I didn't want to keep going to finish lest I goof up somehow. I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow morning. However, these Joe Wood coning tools are pretty much...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Emptied three guns I had loaded and sitting around. One was an Uberti 1862 Pocket Police. One was a Pecatonica River Underhammer .45 that I had loaded from last deer season. Took a shot at 100 yard gong and missed. However, with my Kibler SMR in .45, (also still loaded from last year's deer...

32 Caliber Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle

I think that you did a great job with that gun. It looks the way I had started out to make mine, like a genuine po old farmer's from North Carolina way gun. I varied and got the maple, instead. Nice gun. The Doc is out now. :thumb:

    Kibler contacted me!

Holy Moly, that is one of the best photos I have seen with a muzzie in the pick. No wonder why! No wonder, indeed!

    I Finally Gave In

Congrats, TDM. You will love it. Any doubts on construction, look to the YouTube videos by Jim on building the gun. Of course, since he has streamlined the construction a bit, you will notice what you have to do and what you don't any more. Also, this is what just regular maple looks like, so...

    Folks, tell me about Fowlers

To answer one question, what would I be using it for. Primarily Turkey, Rabbit, Deer, Squirrel. I'm in Illinois, so it has to be a round ball of more than .45 caliber for deer. I see that most here call them Smoothbores and not Fowlers. Deerstalker, I checked that out and see that you have done...

    Folks, tell me about Fowlers

The idea of Fowlers has intrigued me for a while. However, I know nothing much about them and so far, Google has NOT been my friend. Ergo, I arrive here looking for information. Let's start with how long, heavy, and what caliber (gauge) would a typical flintlock Fowler be? Ready, set. GO...

    Jim Kibler : Open House

Jim has said that a Hawken and a Smooth bore fowler are in the planning stages. I'm pretty sure when he makes them, he wants them to sell so he can keep his people paid. His people were even working during the open house cranking out the guns. Then they had to deal with the tours taking up their...

    Jim Kibler : Open House

I should mention it for those that might be wondering. People did ask if they could buy a complete kit at the shop. The answer was no, because they have a backlog on orders and it would not be fair to the people who ordered to have to wait because somebody came to the shop and got a gun ahead of...

    Jim Kibler : Open House

Jim said about upcoming guns that he checks with what people want in designs. A lot of left-handers were there. He said that whatever sells the most would probably come in a left-handed design first. As for a Brown Bess, I think you would have to get the British Army interested in buying it...
