What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I have been away from the forums for a few weeks. Just read through the last 23 pages of this forum to get myself caught up. Does that count? :p The Doc is out now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I took my left-over Lee Precision little melting pot (just the little metal pot that they used to sell) out of the bag, put in a mix of Bore Butter and Beeswax. I carefully melted it on the stove, then dipped in all the cartridges I made over the past few days and some that I had from about a...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Non-muzzleloading. Had a nice day at a continuing legal education training session, seeing some lawyers I had not seen in a while. Muzzleloading. Put together 13 round-ball and one conical cartridge tonight, picking up where I left off the other night. Despite having a good day, my innards...

    And yet another Kibler SMR

Oh, I love Cherry. Especially cherries on ice cream and in Whiskey and 7-Ups. However, the color of the wood there is striking. Almost makes me want to do one, too. But I only have two hands and already have a SMR and now a Woodsrunner. Oh, the thoughts!!!! Must resist!!!! The Doc is out now...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Made some .36 cat-rigges. Era's gone Colt .36 mold, Guns of the West formers, coffee filter nitrated papers. I still have to lube and trim a few of them. Representative sample shown, and as you can see, I have some more to go yet. Will also try to make some round ball ones when I get back to it...

    Mass produced flintlocks

I agree on spouting mythology or just making stuff up. Now, since you are here and I am a fountain of knowledge for my readers, I have this wisdom to impart upon you. 😅😂🤣 Some will work great and some will not. I've heard about some but have no real experience except with one Pedersoli and two...

    Sighting in the Woodsrunner...

Kind of glad I found this thread as I finally got out today to shoot my Woodsrunner for the first time. Mine was also shooting left. I have no idea where the original poster NCHawkeye was holding, but if he was holding center, then his shots were about as low as mine went. However, I was not...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot my .54 Woodsrunner for the first time. .530 balls, .015 patches, 30 grains 3f at 25 yards. It was shooting low and to the left. (about 4" low and 1-1/2" to the left - no wind) I was only using 30 grains because of the distance, and was kind of sighting it in on past postal targets of this...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Just tried making some BP cat-rigez but it was not working out at the moment. Glue stick didn't stick on the bottom on some I made earlier. Backing off before I try to force it and really screw up. I'll give it a go in the next few days. The Doc is tired and a little frustrated now. 😖

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

It's getting more and more costly, but I get it from MidwayUSA. Used to come in two three pound connected ingots, but now is five pounds, one ingot. Since I don't shoot that much, it lasts me. (I know, I should practice, but... ) For other shooting (those new-fangled cartridge guns) I get scrap...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished molding bullets today. I finished because I ran out of soft lead and had to order more. .31 Colt Baby Dragoon, .36 Colt. .44 Johnston & Dow and round balls in .457 and .380. The Doc is out here and heading to the office now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent part of this afternoon with Mark Hubbs. Well, his Eras Gone bullet molds, anyways. I molded some .44 Johnston & Dow, .36 Colt Cartridge Works, .31 Colt Baby Dragoon, and then some .380 round ball from a Track of the Wolf/Lee 6-ball mold. Except for the .31's, I was out of all of them...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I decided to refinish the barrel, screws, ramrod holders (the nomenclature escapes me at the moment) and butt plate of my Kibler SMR. So far, I am 3/5ths done with the barrel, the final piece, but taking a break right now. The buttplate I got to refinish thanks to managing to scrape it on the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finally got out and did some shooting today. .45 SMR, at 25 yards, using lower powder loads per the article in a recent Muzzle Blasts. Used .440 ball, .010 lubed patch, 30 then down to 23 grains of 3F, topped by a Lee scoop of corn meal. It was also the first time using a powder horn I made...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished putting a finish on the Woodsrunner lock. Put it back together (faster going together than coming apart) and stuck it in the rifle. With the exception of eventually doing some engraving, I am done. The Doc is satisfied now, and out.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I got the Woodsrunner hammer separated from the lockplate. I degreased the plate, cock, screw and top jaw. The first coating went on mottled and did not look good on the sideplate and hammer. The screw on the other hand, not being a casting, came out great. I had to step away and not get...
