What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yeah, I know. But I don't have an old brass bolt. My wife might say I'm an old crass dolt, but nope on the old brass bolt. The Doc is out and thanks you, now.

I do not know how it would be when a sanding stick worked pretty well. In the end though, I got it where I wanted it and am a tad happier now. Thank you, though. The Doc is out again. 😎

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I had a friend notice something I did not the other day. That was the wood around the lock on my Woodsrunner being high (proud) of the lock around part of it. So today I addressed that. I took the lock out and sanded the areas that were high. I did repeated fittings to see where I was with it...

    Western Illinois

Western Illinois covers a lot of territory. Whereabouts, roughly, be ye from? The Doc is out now.

Neat. With my luck, the gun would be tumbling off the bag the second I snapped the photo! The Doc is envious now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I like the look of the last photo, which appears to be the inside one. it has the look of wood, whereas, the first photos have the look of an aged barn paint job. However, if the last photo is what it is turning into, I think it is super. as for the blending of the black in the incisions, (or...

    Kibler screwed me

For my first, an SMR, all I had was a ratcheting screwdriver. That took a while. This time, for my Woodsrunner, I had picked up a great cordless drill. That box was opened in no time. I feel for the O.P. here having arthritis and having no power in the cordless. The Doc is out now.

    August Postal Match

How about two points for just hitting the paper? The Doc is practical about his abilities. 😉

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Looking around my gun area at home I realized I did not have any dark stain, just light varnish. So I went to the local hardware store, and got a dark stain yesterday. This morning I stained the ramrod for the Woodsrunner. One coating so far. However, it is ML related, so... The Doc is out now...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Thank you. The inspiration, as opposed to doing traditional carving, was the ancient Indian mound at Newark, Ohio. It is only about 5 feet tall end to end, but something that should be seen if you are ever in the area. And thank you to all others who have commented. It is very much...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

So today I fitted the sights and cut some grooves into the ramrod (groovy, man) and I was hoping to get out to take some photos of the Woodsrunner thus far. However, we actually got rain and then a thunderstorm this morning. It was not until late this afternoon that I was able to get out to the...

I've got similar but older, and probably just as tough as they will do the job on anything (but those pins). Thanks for the tip though. The Doc is out now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Okay, for all practical purposes, my Woodsrunner is assembled. It took longer than with my Kibler Southern Mountain in terms of days, but I was not doing something on it every day. Today, I got all those hardened pins cut to size, rounded (both with a Dremel Moto-tool using cutting and grinding...

    Lee REAL bullets

I cast .54 R.E.A.L. heavy bullets. If I am shooting at the range, I bring some wax paper, bore butter, and roll the bullets in the bore butter on wax paper before setting them in the barrel. If not shooting at the range (hunting), I just squeeze out some BB and shove it down. The only gun I use...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

ARG!!! I am close to going crazy. I am still working on the Woodsrunner. Today while trying to assemble the gun, I managed to have two pins blow out some wood. I can fix it, but still! Then I also noticed that somehow, I missed a spot by the sideplate mortise and had not had Aqua Fortis on it...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I put the Aqua Fortis on the stock of the Woodsrunner, then hit it with a heat gun after that dried. A few minutes ago I put on the first coat of Rocky Mountain Forge Permalyn and it is hanging in the bathroom now (tallest place I could find to hang it) to dry. The stock came out dark this...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yesterday, nothing. However, I was 'designated sniper' at Camp Callahan, a one-week each camp for adults, teens and children with special needs, developmental and physical disabilities located north of Quincy, Illinois. Wednesday morning is range day where the campers come out in the morning to...

That looks so peaceful and nice. My luck would have mosquitos, chiggers, ticks, fleas and ants all joining me in the tent. The Doc is jealous now. 🤑

I finally, finally figured out what to carve for the tang carving. A Maple leaf for a Maple stock! I finally got the other carvings finished and after the tang carving is done, I will be getting ready to finish the stock. (Sigh). The Doc is out now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

After doing nothing on the Woodsrunner for a few days having taken some time off to go to the 50th High School Reunion this weekend, I got back to working on the carvings, cutting in a line on the cheek piece, cleaning up and adding depth to the entry pipe carving. I had to give up on it as I...
