What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Interesting. Looking at what you had done, I thought that you had done this for a long time. It's my first time trying carving, too. The Doc is out now. PS, I misunderstood what you meant about that gouge/tool I made. Sorry about that, Chief!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Nope, but thank you. It clears the cheek piece. I still have to pull the trigger guard out to finish the butt portion of the lines. That means I will have to find my punches. I got tired of being stabbed by the pin Kibler's put in the trigger guard and cut it down to its final size. 😃 The Doc...

ARG! Close out of the MLF and lo and behold, the photo programs work now. It ain't pretty, but it works. The Doc is out now. Is there a Doctor in the house for my new headache? 😬

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

TDM You were partially correct. I followed the lines on the bottom of the forestock and did well. Where the pipes were to be placed, there was a drop, or lift. Because of that, I stopped on either side and finished with a flat wide needle file. Now, where you were correct, and I stopped for the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

TDM, here you go. I turned the screw on a belt sander (good buy from Harbor Freight a few years back, also sharpened a Chef's Knife with it while I was using it) and the wood was just from some scrap wood a friend gave me a couple years ago. Yes, that is a crack in the wood from missing the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Besides what I posted a couple pages back now, I made a gouge very similar to the one TDM made on page 395. I made mine adjustable. Don't really know why I did that since this gun I am working on will probably be the last one I ever make (I think I said that about the Kibler SMR I did a couple...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I started carving in a line on the front left of the stock. It's a lot harder than it looks in videos. I think I will make one of those gouge devices like TDM made to assist in making the line. I did find the compasses my father used in drafting long, long ago, but they both take large pencil...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I carved out the outline of the entry-pipe carving on the stock today. I sanded areas of the other carvings I did to smooth out the look of the carving (ahead of and behind the cheek-piece on the butt of the gun). I still have to add depth to them, but that will come later. Right now I am hung...

Still carving on my gun, slowly, slowly. The Doc is out now.

Woodsrunner kit. Put the muzzle cap on and filed one screw down (one more to go). Also I got a blister on my thumb draw-filing the barrel, but I finished that. The Doc is out now. 😎

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Put the two remaining ramrod pipes on after filing them to remove casting flash. Drew on the first designs on the stock for carving later, in front of the cheek piece, have to decide on the butt section, and roughed in a sketch for the tang area carving. Little by little the Woodsrunner is...

    My finished Kibler SMR

I like your treatment of the end of the ramrod. Nice touch!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished carving my patch box lid and shaved down the ramrod to fit the pipes on the Kibler Woodsrunner that arrived Saturday. I still have to pick designs for the stock carving on either side of the butt and behind the entry pipe. The Doc is out now. 😎

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

The Jim Kibler Woodsrunner I ordered at the end of March arrived today. So far, I have gotten it out of the box, put all the parts in the same bag, put the barrel in the stock, put the gun in a corner of my reloading area and sealed up the box again to put in the garage so the wife has no idea I...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Put patches, lube, balls, and cleaning patches in a dresser that the wife cleared out so I could organize (and be able to find) some of my gun stuff. Also drilled a ramrod tip to accept a nail then cut the nail down and peened it into place on the ramrod on my .54 H&A Underhammer barrel...

Lee R.E.A.L. bullets and a proper charge

Thank you all for the replies. I swear, about the only time my mind seems to work correctly is in court (where it should, but...). I just got something in the mail that I should have gotten a long, long time ago. The shooting log books that the NMLRA sells. I got one for all of my BP rifles. Now...

If you are going to cone it, find Flintsteel on here for his coning tool, caliber specific. Easy to use. The Doc is out now. 😎

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Picked up in the mail the four NMLRA Shooting Log Books I ordered for my four BP rifles so I won't forget what loads I work up. Took me 67 years to get smarter. :thumb: The Doc is out now. 😎

    Coning

He is still up and above the ground when I was chatting with him a couple weeks back. Yes, he still has the coning tools and is making them. You should be able to find him on the web or here under the name of Flintsteel. He still checks out the forums, too. He also has a great sense of humor...

Lee R.E.A.L. bullets and a proper charge

Okay, here is my question. I shoot in my .54 Pedersoli Jager, Lee 380 grain bullets. Before I burn more powder, I was reading the article in the current MUZZLE BLASTS about using less powder. I got to thinking, as I am always seeming to use different powder charges (and forgetting what I am...
