With that being said, Jackson, Boone, Houston and Crockett for the most part seem to be relatively clean shaven. If it bothers you, I would roll with what I got and call it good.

It would appear that in 1810-1840's Professionals eg. Soldiers (Officers), Engineers, Surveyors, Lawyers and Merchants and various tradesmen etc. seem to wear the "Mutton Chops / Sideburns". RM
