    Very small caplock pistol…thoughts?

Thanks for your explication. Mr Bottomley and many other similar dealers of militaria, arms and armour, while not exactly overloaded with American-made firearms, are nevertheless well-stocked. A local to me dealer has a number of very interesting ACW-era handguns and even a cased English-made...

    Very small caplock pistol…thoughts?

Why does this come as a surprise to you? As a contemporary copy of an antique pistol, this little pistol, like any other antique muzzleloading firearm, can be bought by anybody over the age of 18 in the UK. It is only modern replicas that are subject to the UK's rather odd take on gun...

    Boiled Linseed Oil Finish?

Bonjela, Dave, Terry here. I would very much like to copy and paste this post of yours on a forum where a shooter is trying to refinish a modern-made stock in an old-fashioned way. He admits that he has had no luck with BLO and is open to suggestments. I always ask at times like this, just in...

IS THIS A SAFE SHOOTING BARREL?

Swiss Black Powder is made entirely with alder buckthorn charcoal and looks rather like graphite. The shooting powder is graded 1-5 under the European classification system, and 1Fg-4Fg using the Anglo-American scale. These classes identify the dimensions and number of corns per gram.

We can also get this stuff, too - Zloty Stok, from Poland, at about 2/3 the cost of Swiss, and not far behind in performance, either. Zloty Stok has a full range of black powders, produced in one of the oldest black powder mills in the world, operating since 1694.

IS THIS A SAFE SHOOTING BARREL?

The Aubonne Black Powder Mill (Swiss Black Powder Factory) was founded in 1853. I guess that they might just be 'like' your GOEX product.

IS THIS A SAFE SHOOTING BARREL?

Are you saying that Swiss black powder is not real black powder? On what basis are you making that claim?

    1853 Enfield bad range day

Oh. The Minié bullet ought to be a 'thumb push' fit' - it DOES need to engage at least with the lands of the rifling - but in an ideal world the weight of the ramrod ought to carry it down to the powder charge. As noted above, pounding the bejabbers out of it will achieve nothing but sorrow...

I am an idiot. Frustrated to the point of wanting to quit.

The letter 'P' in Pyrodex P stands for 'pistol', hence the fine gradation, said to be 3Fg. And from my own personal experience black powder in a sealed container doesn't degrade. I've shot 120-year-old powder, and over on the Snider forum one lucky shooter bought an unopened package of ten...

Mr Person - This advert from over here has details of a very fine Baker-style rifle with good pics of the cheekpiece side - take a look - https://www.thelanesarmoury.co.uk/shop.php?code=24800 The 'T' before the 'Foley' stands for 'tac' or 'Terry'. either will do.
