    Keeping Muzzleloading Alive

If there is a rendezvous or black powder shoot in the area it needs to be well advertised. Hell unless a person is really into it already it's usually very hard for a new person to find out there are like minded people out there. It's to get new blood without a transfusion.

    Cheating In Matches

There was a guy years ago that would show up at primitive matches with peep sights, those things you stick on your eye glasses, anything he could think of just out of spite and would argue about it non stop.

    bad caps or hardware issue

You know dang well that most are not going to read this and continue to offer "helpful" replies. lol

    bad caps or hardware issue

If the primer in the cap is coming out and plugging the nipple with gunk, it seems to me a issue with the caps.

    bad caps or hardware issue

Sounds like a moisture problem if the caps are loosing there compound.

    Carrying pre lubed patches

The tin Altoids or breathmint tins are handy. Throw them in a small fire to burn off paint, wipe with oil. I usually carry roughly 30 lubed (olive oil) pre cut patches, maybe 6 balls ( rest are in a bag in my pouch) and a cleaning jag so its handy to swab every few shots even while hunting...

    CAN A .45 DRIVE TACKS?

50 grains of FFG seems like a pretty wimpy load at 100 yards, accuracy and bullet placement are very important but deer "move" perfect shots are not always made so a little extra energy is nice to break through bone are penetrate that thick layer of tallow. We owe it to the game to make good...

Must be Christmas OR old age

Digging through the pantry looking for tomorrows lunch and found 4 cans of GEOX FFG, 1 can of FFFG and a can of priming powder. If I remember right I was going to do some remodeling in the back porch last year so stashed some of the powder in the pantry temporarily. I really ransacked it then...

    Cleaning brushes?

I've noticed this too in other calibers and some that pulled apart from the bristles from the threaded center. Everything seems to be getting more cheaply made. I never bothered to look at manufacturer because I go threw so many. I just grab a few of whatever brand is on the shelf, guess I...

selecting a caliber for hunting? small game vs big game

My all time favorite small game rifle is my .45 flint southern rifle with light loads (25-45 grains of FFG) and with heavier loads can use it on smaller deer if wanted. A .50 is pretty hard to beat as a all around gun.

    Thoughts on my blunderbuss

IF I were to use FFFFG it would be very light loads, I'm not sure on the strength of brass barrels, myself I would wait till I found some FFG somewhere.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I looked at pictures of early fowlers I wanted, then looked at smoothbores I could get by with, I priced these fowlers and then looked at my rapidly dwindling savings then cried some. Cried some more. lol
