Advice please - Thinking of taking the dive into Flint

I've heard the Borax idea before but forgot all about it and yuck. lol. I don't use spit patches anyway, my rifles often end up loaded for a month and I carry them year around so don't want my patches drying out. Seems patches lubed with bore butter or tallow-neatsfoot-beeswax combo tended...

    Oxidized Balls.

Just about everything a man does has some aspect of a little danger in it, enjoy the little dangers in life while we can and before were regulated out of everything for or own good.

    Twangy Frizzen

I kinda like the sound myself but then again I'm partial to southern rifles. lol

    PC/HC Hunting?

Probably 90% of my hunting is small game anymore and 75% of that is done in 18th century clothing and a long rifle. Luckily I live in a area I can roam out back or be in hundreds or thousands of acres in 15 minutes. Doesn't hurt to have a blaze orang vest in the truck just in case a person...

    Bending a hammer

Can't remember if it's right or not but a couple times I've had to put them in a vice and give them a little love tap before to get them to center.

Advice please - Thinking of taking the dive into Flint

Amazing how many times I find rifle patches smoldering on the range. Some lubes seem to burn more than others, we've stopped shooting a couple times due to high fire risks.

Advice please - Thinking of taking the dive into Flint

Might be too far but the Anasazi Free Trappers are having their rondy in southern Utah in May I think. Could look them up and see if they know of more in your area or members close by

Advice please - Thinking of taking the dive into Flint

It might not make a bit of difference but for historical sake that by the time the Great Plains rifle became in style I don't think any were offered in flintlock. As a shooter-hunting rifle this won't make a difference but if historical accuracy is important then a earlier style rifle may be...

Advice please - Thinking of taking the dive into Flint

Hit some local rendezvous, look around for some black powder clubs in your area or look at some used rifles on Track of the Wolfs sight. Many if not most often a decent used custom rifle will be better than most mass produced guns. I've found some great deals at rondies.

    Death of muzzleloading

I would put them on par with the CVA Kentucky rifles and pistols, maybe not even that good, I have one in the safe I will hopefully get more time to play with this spring. The triggers on the "Kentucky" models are among the worst ever built but usable I guess. They also made a Brown Bess copy...

    Death of muzzleloading

The old Miroku Ultra-Hi's. I just found one in a pawn shop the year before last, I brought it home for $50, cleaned the snot out of it, and made a new spacer for the two piece stock. Don't know what I'm going to do with it but it shoots pretty good.

    We Used To Be Relevant

Funny, I was just going through some boxes of books and came across my 1998 EMF catalog and have been going (drooling) through it. Still had the receipt inside from ordering a 51 Navy Hartford model that I still have for $87.

    We Used To Be Relevant

As long as there is one person that allows us to bring stinky guns, smokey hides and a whole mess of sharp things into the house we must still be relevant.

    Richland Arms???

Well, guns, especially black powder guns have about dried up and now are selling for at least twice as much as they were two years ago.

    Richland Arms???

Entry level gun imported during the mid 70's. About the same price range as the CVA and Ultra-Hi rifles of the day but at best a 1850's style rifle. Haven't seen one in many years so can't really comment about the quality but it was entry level.

    Death of muzzleloading

I allow a inch maybe two but these rods are outrageous, a stumble could pull the forward pipe off and snap the rod or ???

    Death of muzzleloading

Yep, newest style long gung in the house is my Ruger #1 I've had for 35 years and a Rossi 92 carbine is the family, home-farm protection gun and has been for 30years, Not a AR here but would kinda like a M1A.

    Death of muzzleloading

Not I, couple others on the forum insist that the use died then was reinvented in the 60's. I'm just proving them wrong.

    New (to me) book

It seems so hard to find good authors, always searching for something new. Usually try to read 18th century stuff but.
