    Patch Lube Latest and Greatest

Ok I cleaned it, it seemed like a lot more dirt came out a lot quicker. I'm thinking it may have loosened crud up that was in the barrel. Anyway cleanup wasn't a problem. Looked down the barrel with a Teslong scope and the bore looked as clean or cleaner than it has before. Like to see some...

    Patch Lube Latest and Greatest

Tried a new lube today and I think I may be on to something. 10 shots, no swabbing, loaded with wood under barrel ramrod, loaded easy and that's as good or better as I've shot with that setup.

More Misfire Issues - Investarms 54 Caliber

I removed my buggered up clean out screw in my TC Hawken and welded it shut. Have yet to have a problem with it.

3F powder vs. 2F in .54cal flintlock rifle

My feeling is 3f starts the ball faster and 2f pushes it off a little slower. Sharper kick with 3f and maybe a better bite on the rifling with 2 f. I'm sure there are all kinds of variables that can affect the way your rifle shoots other than 2f or 3f, long barrel, short barrel, big bore or...

    Now I will clean it.

I always clean mine at least before I go to bed. Here in New Jersey you can hear them rusting at night and it keeps me up.

What to do with pan primer?

I dump powder all over no matter what I do, so I put it wherever is convenient, pocket, benck, shooting bag and just dont worry about a little powdergetting spilled.

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

Years ago in NJ you could only use buckshot. I started hunting with muzzleloader around then when they started allowing it and have always hunted deer with a muzzleloader in all seasons it was allowed.

    Pondering a flintlock. Educate me.

A plain maple stock with american walnut finish makes for a good looking stock. Plain maple will still have a bit of curl in it to give it character.

What has more effect on POI, muzzle velocity or recoil.

Newton's third law is an opposite and equal reaction, the bullet goes straight out the barrel the barrel goes straight back. Everything else is caused by outside forces. ie the person holding the gun.

What has more effect on POI, muzzle velocity or recoil.

If you hold the rifle upside down will the barrel go up or down?

What has more effect on POI, muzzle velocity or recoil.

I think the recoil is straight back and the person hold on the gun makes it go up and that gives the bullet time to leave the barrel before the muzzle rises.

    Walnut board

The slab is relatively flat. I would clean it up so I could see the grain and cut blanks then plane it flat. I have a planer and wide belt big enough to handle the hole board, I'm pretty familiar with working with wood I built stairs and rail systems for 40 years and still have a full shop...

    Walnut board

Had this walnut board given to me. It's between 12 and 14 feet long, 18 to 24 wide and about 2.5 inches thick and has been stickered for about a dozen years. I would like to make some stocks out of it but I'm not sure. What the thoughts out there, got to be some good in it.

Controversial question. Short rodding a patched ball.

Have shot short started ball in a couple barrels with no issues, One was a A weight 50 cal. The shot just sounded funny, like maybe a squib load, no issues, but did not reach the target. Not advocating shooting short started ball and I like the post above "when the loading starts the chatting...

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

I don't think I would go as far as forging the barrel and casting the lock parts. Just get a slab or pre carve half stock and the other parts you need and have at it. I have a hard time finding a rifle with all the components I like. I really like the Kibler woodsrunner, but I like iron...

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

They may be more expensive, but usually it's a much better product. (Kibler)

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

Well maybe we just need Jim to make a Hawken.

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

Your right, probably not for everyone. That's a reason Kibler is so popular and just a great product.
