    Bear down!

Black bear meat makes some really excellent corned "beef". It looks like you have a lot to work with. Great post!

That's a good haul! I'm always on the lookout for good back action locks.

    Photo op

Nice photos and a trip you'll remember for the rest of your life. I shot a deer with velvet antlers like the ones in the photo. I was hunting with my 8 year old son on Prince of Wales Island in SE Alaska in 1983. I had my Dad's Model 64 Winchester 30-30. My son missed the buck twice with the...

SOLD - Pending funds Cherry stocked Kibler 40 cal. SMR update

I haven't sold this one locally so It's ready to be securely packed and shipped to a new owner. It's just too long for my way of travel. Probably shot less than 100 rounds. I'll include some .390 balls, pre-cut patches, a few extra flints, and some small tools to keep her running. The price is...

    Balance point

My ancestor's half stock rifle has a short forend. The balance point is ahead of the ramrod entry pipe so the balance point is on the ramrod. It's pretty uncomfortable to carry and in cold weather wouldn't be good at all with the fingers wrapped around that cold barrel.

    Lock coming loose during shooting.

I've never needed Loctite or anything else to keep a lock bolt tight. Must be another problem.

    Pondering a flintlock. Educate me.

I agree, you should get a Kibler SMR 40 caliber. Maybe I'm biased but I happen to have one for sale. FOR SALE 40 caliber Kibler SMR

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

My suggestion, for what it's worth, is for Kiblers to call their new creation a Plains Rifle. That would open many more options to create a rifle that would have the authentic look of the mid 1800's rifles without being so heavy to pack around and would allow for some ideas of their own that...

Acetone/AutoTrans Fluid - Tested to be THE BEST thread penetrating solution going!

Been using it for years. Add some kerosene and I think mineral spirits and it becomes Ed's Red bore cleaner and lubricant. It's good for working under the lead in a fouled barrel to loosen it up.

cast my first bullet ever, critiques?

I use an inexpensive single burner electric hot plate to set the mold on while the lead is heating up. A lead thermometer is nice but not necessary. As mentioned, it looks like things need to be hotter. If it gets so hot you start getting fins on the bullet back off the temp a little. You're off...

    Tumbling balls in soapy water

If you really need to keep your balls looking like new vacuum pack them with a food saver. No, I don't do it but I did vacuum pack some cast bullets to keep them from moving around in the mail. They are still nice and shiny after 3 or 4 years.

What has more effect on POI, muzzle velocity or recoil.

I would think that a semi auto pistol with all its recoil and inertia functions will have a different recoil cycle than a ridged rifle. I don't think what we see in the video is the same as what we would see with a muzzle loading rifle. That's just a theory of course since I can't prove it.

    Unique piece of Sugar Maple

It's usually called quilted maple. I made a stock out of some quilted Big Leaf Maple in Oregon that looked nice. It's a softer wood than the Sugar Maple. You might have trouble with any decorative carving!

    Epoxy Can Be Cured

I can't answer your question about cylinders based on experience but I have epoxied in several 22rf liners that have worked well for many hundreds of rounds, if not more. I used Acraglas but any good slow cure epoxy should work. I'd think your idea would work but if I were doing it I would use...
