Here is What I Love About Muzzleloading

I know exactly what you mean. For me, each loading, firing and swabbing out is an event in itself. As I have only been into this properly for about 3 years each week brings along something new to learn. I Started casting my own bullets this time last year, but assembling my own gun from a kit is...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Could you possibly show a view of the sight from the top? I plan to get one of Tomahawk's sights too, but I'm curious how to fit it.

    Preventing bore rust

I have the very same rifle, and the very same problem: the brown substance that is present when I run a cleaning patch down the gun immediately prior to use. However, on checking with an endoscope, there is no rust or pitting evident. I can only assume it is a property of the anti - corrosion...

    Exploding CVA barrel

A pity. Some of us on lower incomes would cherish such a rifle, CVA or otherwise.

    Another shipping war story….

I had a situation like this, with UPS (We have UPS here). UPS claimed it was delivered as there was a signature on the receipt slip. A fake scribble, obviously. After a month with no package, the original vendor sent me a replacement item at no extra cost. Eventually, three months later, the...

    For all you "Indian" Haters?

I will certainly check this out further, thanks. If what he claims in the link I posted is true, the Indian Import thing doesn't bother me that much.

    For all you "Indian" Haters?

But just in case they do, here is something that should put the argument to bed once and for all: http://www.middlesexvillagetrading.com/muzzleloader_technical_info/educational_articles/musket_history_articles/Indian_muskets_and_safety.shtml In fact this company, which appears to be US based...

For those other Europeans - and anybody else -firearms licensing in UK - LONG READ

It is quite amazing the difference a 22 mile wide stretch of water makes. Even back in the 90's when I had a smooth - bored Parker Hale Enfield for re enactment purposes, UK Firearms law was cumbersome and at least for me difficult to navigate. Here in France BP guns of all kinds, with the...

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

Ditto. Where I live there is no legal requirement to keep BP guns in a safe. I have them on display, in an alcove which cannot be seen from outside the house, and each one is attached to the rack by a lock and chain. These are beautiful works of craftsmanship, each one tells a story, and they...

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

I don't have this problem either, in the strict sense of the question. I do however have an original Snider-Enfield (I know, not strictly what we discuss here) in very nice condition which I am very proud of, and keep to all intents and purposes as a wall hanger. I shoot with it perhaps a couple...

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

This discussion reminds me of the bit in The Magnificent Seven when the James Coburn character 'Britt' shoots a bandit off his horse, at a distance that cannot be less than 200 yards. Chico: 'That's the best shot I've ever seen!' Britt: 'It was the worst. I was aiming at the horse!' To be fair...

FOR SALE Loooong squirrel gun FS

Absolutely beautiful. If there were any way I could get this shipped to France without a mass of paperwork and customs charges, I would love to have it.

Curious about availability of percussion caps in Europe, Africa, S.America, Asia?

(BUMP!!) Sorry I missed this thread somehow. Yes here in Europe they are readily available. This was not the case a year ago and beyond - you could hardly get them for about eighteen months, and profiteers on gun sites over here were selling batches of ten for ridiculous prices. The Ukraine -...

    Who carries a purse?

As an interesting tangent, here is another example of the divergance of American English and British English. AT first I thought this thread was about small pouches for carrying lose change, documents, etc. But it turns out that what you call a purse, we call a 'handbag'. Some purses (handbags)...

Favorite RB size for a .45

I used .435 for a while but my grouping was bad - .445's are much better and I always use these now. Mind you, I tend to use old T-shirts for patches, so maybe the .435's were just not engaging the rifling.

    1858 Remington Brass real ?

Oh dear... has it thoroughly 'shaken loose' then? Was tempted to get a Spiller and Burr. Maybe I wont now.
