    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

I’d rather have the Charleville as was supplied to the American colonists over the Bess, used by the King’s oppressors. Easier to clean, robust and reliable. But many want a Bess. Either would be a great offering for the upcoming 250th though.

Cleaning that little space at the bottom of the barrel

Two things to consider: Your bore is probably either .50 or .54. You can use the appropriate brush but do not jam it all the way down. Your rifle has a chambered breech. The breech plug extends about on inch inside the barrel. The ‘bore’ in that chambered breech is approximately .25 caliber. Use...

No disrespect intended to you! I should have posted my response to someone else’s post. Some plank builders, (other than your post, not you) disparage kits builders/assemblers. I merely wanted to point out the 3 levels of knowledge and expertise: 1. Scratch builders making everything 2. Plank...

What a tremendous grasp of the obvious. The rest of us lesser individuals now stand in awe.

Very true but I did say scratch builders, not plank builders. Scratch builders are in a class by themselves, masters in wood, metal, engraving, carving and art. Plank builders are artisans also but do not posses all the skills required of someone that can create the entire gun from the raw...

Bravo and well said. You have made historical correctness and quality achievable to those of us without the skills of gifted plank builders or the bank roll to commission one from one of those builders. I and the flintlock community as a whole thank you heartedly. Snoot

I hope your definition of building from scratch means: Forging the barrel from locally produced wrought iron. Constructing your own taps, dies, screws, all lock parts including springs, breeching, boring and rifling, (all in your own built rifling jig), sand casting your own brass or steel...

I think we are all aware that anyone’s kit is not comparable to a truly hand built rifle in skillset acquired and time needed to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to scratch build plus time. Not all scratch builds are perfect. One that I was gifted was such a disaster that it took many...

What happened to TOW’s gun kits!?

I’ve also noticed pre-owned Kibler rifles on tracks website from time to time usually bringing good price. I noticed they do not identify these firearms as Kibler’s, not even the lock whereas they usually tell who manufactured the locks on other rifle examples. Probably do not want to give Jim...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

1851 and 1850 ASM’s with no safety pins. I bought two ASM revolvers from a member a bit ago. Cleaned them, polished and smoothed the actions, stripped removed all milling marks and cold blued. I like them both a lot, timing and lock up great, both made in 1998. One thing bothered me. They did...
