    CVA Mountain Rifle

score!!! Great rifles. My St Louis Hawken has a fantastic barrel. Have thought about re-stocking it in a better wood someday. The early CVA products were excellent.

Mike Beliveau injured in fall, doing OK.

Mike just posted an update. He's home, went through serious misery and is not fully up to speed but he's getting better! He also updates the lawsuit matter as well. Give him a lot of clicks, fellers. He's one of us.

Uberti Santa Fe Hawken has arrived.

Yeah really! I'm laughing...and crying at the same time.

Uberti Santa Fe Hawken has arrived.

I had one back in the 80's...bought from Mr. Allen himself in Albuquerque. That was a fantastic rifle! Could kick myself for trading it off.

Any suggestions? Or should I leave this dog under the porch?

Outstanding! I finished mine a few months ago and STILL haven't fired it. I seriously need to retire.

Any suggestions? Or should I leave this dog under the porch?

Woodsrunner? Extra curly maple? The curl is pretty but straight grain is stronger. A couple of my recent builds with CM4 grade stocks kinda concern me about strength, at the wrist area especially.

Investarm Kit - End cap pin is crooked? Any ideas?

I would redrill it, properly square to the barrel and further aft. Might be able to peen those holes shut with some ball peen hammer action and some filing or fill with solder. Or, just leave as-is. The barrel will provide support to the nose cap from any appreciable movement that could cause...

    Save your money...

EZ lube.....lubricates the opening action of one's wallet. Nature's best solvent since beginning of time? Water.

What's your go to lube recipe?

    Beeswax and liberal tears.

Traditions Kentucky Rifle, really not a bad gun

I concur on the barrels. They are scary good. My St Louis Hawken build, looks pretty crappy as I built it a long time ago before I "upskilled myself". But..... I mic'd the aftermarket sights I put on that rifle to dead center on the top flat and that rifle puts .490 balls dead center...

    Minie Recommendation

I have three rifle muskets and they all mic differently. Pin gauges, sizers and various molds all necessary to feed the guns the right ammo.

What is it that pulls us into muzzle loading!

Visited Gettysburg as a boy with my mom and gramma....the place just moved me profoundly. Then back home, visited Fort Union here in New Mexico. A Ranger in Federal uniform demonstrated a '61 Springfield. That smell, the process of loading....just could not get over it. Also watched "The Red...

    Kibler Fowler available.

It's fantastic but not enough of a unique departure from my North Star West fowler that has a beautiful octagon taper to round barrel that I prefer. This one will be yet another hit for Mr. Kibler and well-deserved.

    Other source for Permalyn sealer?

Good point. I also add some turpentine to the Tried and True Varnish oil that I prefer to get better penetration into the grain.

    Other source for Permalyn sealer?

Yup. Tried and True all day long.
