Bore polishing to help with fouling: it worked!

MY GPR .54 was also a rough bear to load until the scotchbrite treatment. Loads nice and easy now. Some commercial barrels are just rough as a cob.

    Flint Leather, Side Fit

I've used a small piece of wood behind the flint to space it forward if it's too short. If too long, notch the leather, knap off some flint, flip over, etc. Improvise, adapt, overcome. Each lock geometry is unique, except for Kibler's which are held to CNC grade tolerances. Those fantastic...

    Pietta or Uberti 1858 Remington

Hate the MIM parts. Just looks like crap. I'll take a 70's, 80's era Uberti, Western Arms, EMF, Lyman..just better built guns. I have a modern Pietta 1860 Sheriff that does go bang and has a good finish but it is NOT the quality of action and machine work of the legacy examples.

    Kit v. Factory

You're not alone. I find that quiet time in my shop, carving, sanding, shaping, staining, fitting parts, etc, to be on-par with if not more satisfying than actual range time. Added benefits: no suffering the tacticool timmy's banging away incessantly with unmentionables, bugs trying to eat me...

    Only one gun allowed!

A flintlock gatling gun with alternating smooth and rifled barrels, a suppressor, a bump stock, wrist brace, laser sights, automatic flint sharpening and a metric ton of Swiss powder. Only Swiss or I'm going home and I mean it, people!

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Had a stuck minie in my zoli Mississippi. Pulled breech, knocked it out with steel rod, put breech back in (lined up factory index mark on bottom of barrel and good to go. Not hard.

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

NICE rifle. I have a defarb'd repro 1861 ( "C" hammer) version. They sure do balance better offhand with several inches of barrel off the end. I concur to stay with genuine black...just because. Don't sweat the patina. Every rifle has its character.

    Bullet casting/sizing advice welcome...

    1. NO wheel weights. ONLY soft, pure lead. 2. Mic the bore. Pin guages are best way to find true land to land diameter. Bullets sized .001"-.002" under that should slide down without too much force. 3. Rough bore? My Great Plains rifle in .54 made in the 90's was a rough beast to load...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Reassembled my Armi Sport 1861 Springfield after shaving and shaping the stock lock panels, comb and buttstock areas. The factory finish was almost nonexistent....so thin it just scraped off easily with a razor blade and it had ZERO penetration into the wood. They just dust on the finish and...

    Kibler Fowler Update

Gonna be a beautiful gun! Nice to see the barrel wall isn't all thick and chunky. It should balance well. Also noted on that original, a REAR SIGHT.

If muzzleloading was a sport on ESPN (funny video)

And WHERE was the pit crew? How about the physical trainer??! C'mon people! Step it up! I expect to see a news conference on this. Need a better (ball)starter. The bench is cold.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Received an auction win off of GB today. I thought it was a defarbed artillery CS 1861 and not worried much about the barrel or lock, just wanted a defarb to guide off to do the same to my Armi Sport 1861. I pulled the barrel and what do I see? A Whitacre Machine barrel! According to...

    Kibler Rear Sight

I like them tall. Easier to see and more metal to work with to get POA=POI.
