This guy is a good flintlock competitor as most of the time his guns are right on. This shot not so good Larry

A slow motion flintlock shooting a gong

Stock up on your flints now! They used to be about 35 cent each when I started. Now you need to get a loan to purchase. Larry PS we want to know when you take the leap to flintlock

A slow motion flintlock shooting a gong

Yes, so true about cap locks, but are they as much fun? Don't get me wrong, I love them both, just like that extra challenge to make flintlocks shoot as accurately as a cap lock. Larry

A slow motion flintlock shooting a gong

Collins Iowa shoot Friend shooting his flintlock at the white gong or steel plate at the top right. Listen for the ring. Larry

When your range rod doesn't go "clank"

Good post! It is always best to check equipment (especially guns) before using. In my younger years I had a ML pistol with a flat faced breech plug. After cleaning I liked to run a patch with oil down and leave it on the breech to soak a bit. Well one time I forgot to take it out period...

SOLD Buckskin outfit $135.00 plus shipping

I made this set of buckskins in the 70s and never used it but a few times. I wore a large size shirt and jeans with a 34" waist. I took a pair of jeans apart and used that for the pant pattern. The nice shirt was a shooting prize if I remember correctly. Pants are 28.5" from crotch to end of...

    Dixon Emanuel Herman (RIP)

I met Dixon in the 70s when he joined Fort Atkinson Muzzleloaders which I was a member of. This man had amazing God given talents. Everything he made or did was first class. In my early years I yearned for a double barreled flintlock shotgun to build. I ordered Navy Arms 12 gauge magnum...

    "Primitive" shooting at NMLRA

Me too, but have to admit my age and ability has changed. Too bad the young bloods can't throw their phones away and taste real fun. Don't think that will ever happen. Larry

    "Primitive" shooting at NMLRA

Be nice to have a REAL primitive range but I think waarp8nt might be right about the nationals just trying to keep the numbers up. The Davy Crocket craze has for sure been lost in this new age of cell phones and social media. Sad for us old farts :( Larry

    "Primitive" shooting at NMLRA

I started shooting at a club in the early 70s. We shot from the pouch and gradually it all changed. Your best bet is to find some Rondies and check with the bushways to see what the perameters are. They are sill around, but you might have to travel. Good luck Larry

Right hand or left hand shooter? 🤔

I think you should do what works! If an eye patch works for you, 99% of the guys I shoot with would not care one bit. I say do what works best for your shooting comfort. Also one other thought: Some shooters actually shoot with both eyes open intentionally. It takes some practice, but two...

Why is this John Manton frizzen/pan designed with this V?

John Manton shotguns are top of the line in my neck of the woods! I am however ignorant about his pan/frizzen bottom configuration. Any enligtenment would be appreciated. Larry

    Type of Jag ?

If you have a RR that fits in the bore (just enough room to slide free) and a parellel jag it could bind as there is no place for the cleaning patch to go. When the RR has plenty of side clearance a parellel sided jag should not be a problem. Different RR diameters versus the bore size to me...

    It’s not a group, it’s a string.

Blurry for sure with trying to center on a circle. Get some black duck tape and some stiff white paper or stiff card. Place a 12" verticle and a 12" horizontal on the target card or paper. It will do wonders for your eye balls. You now have some cross hairs you can zerro in on. Larry
