Favorite Load for your TC Hawken .50 Cal

Just friends. Lewis reached out to me in February of 2016 after watching my video's. He was wanting to get into muzzleloaders and he offered to take me on a whitetail hunt. As it worked out I didn't have much planned so I went on the hunt. One day on our hunt a local guy showed up and somehow...

Is Change is a Good Thing? The New .54 Mold!

Take those .533 minie bullets and wrap them with 9# onion skin. The finish size will be about .539 in my opinion it should be good to go. I personally would try it with an over powder card wad.

    No Excuse bullets

I have actually tested no excuse bullets for paper patching. They worked good. I took the lube off wrapped them and sized them. I shot them with 80 gr of pyrodex P. There is a lot of paper to work with. Try tracing paper and also look for old clothing patterns.

Dental lead is hard, the joints on lead pipes is hard. lead shot if you have ot and want to get rid of it.

    Dental X-Ray Lead strips.

It is absolutely NOT pure lead. It is in fact the same hardness as wheel weight, 12 to 14 bhn.

Wonders! That's what a felt wad will do!

Use a hard lube like SPG use it sparingly. Heat it up and mix it well. When it hardens it will be fine.

    1:20 conical performance

I have killed a couple under 100 yards. One was a calf that was under 100 yards, I'm thinking around 50. That bullet blew through. The next one was an adult cow. She was shot at around 60 yards. The bullet crushed the shoulder and was found in the flank. This is the story...

Wonders! That's what a felt wad will do!

Over powder wads work. I've been using over sized over powder wads for a long time. I use wool felt that I cutvwith a 5/8 punch. They come out at .620 I slightly lube them.

    1:20 conical performance

First off Thank you. I'm really not in the pure soft lead only camp. I personally harden my bullets with my own mix. The mix I developed at the same time I developed my paper patched Lee 500S&W bullet was a hardness between 6 and 7 bhn. How I came to that number was I shot pure and started to...

    I am totally…..

I have been stockpiling for many years. When I buy caps I vacuum seal them. I place a paper towl in with the caps and write the dates. I use the oldest. Some are more than 10 years old and they go bang every time. I sealed several cans of powder the same way.

What lead do I have ?

I can scratch 18 bhn lead with my thumb. The scratch test is not a test. Dropping it on concrete will tell more.

Great Youtube movie on penetration - with a Hawken replica...

Your thinking is limited to what you personally know. Thankfully, reality for many of us is we just simply set the sight for the shot and shoot the animal with a dead on hold at what ever the yardage is. 100 yards? Set the sight and shoot. 172 yards? Set the sight and hold dead on. 248 yards...

No Excuses NEW 54 cal 485 gr bullet Reviews?

For a company made bullet the no excuse is a pretty decent bullet. I have tested them in 50 cal. That was back before 2006. The biggest issue I saw back then was quality control. After the lube was melted off they ran + - 10 grains. I bought a couple hundred and did my own quality control...

My names are Hot Rod Renegade and Hot Rod Hawken. I actually wasn't the one to name them. A guy on Cast Boolets named them.
