    Finally, a loading stand

I get on a cleaning binge, get the place looking like an operating room, then my evil twin, Billy, shows up! in very little time, it looks like someone shot off a cannon in there!

    Finally, a loading stand

Ever since I have had my Ruger Old Army, I have made a mess of loading it. I was also under the thought that I had to put grease over the loaded chambers, so melted Crisco was all over the gun too. Ugh! I have learned much since getting on this forum, and I have happily stolen every good idea I...

    Dowel for a loading rod.

I began using dowels years ago shooting in Louisiana out in the swamp lands. My hand slipped loading my Navy Arms 12 ga, and the heavy wood ramrod shot out of the barrel like a missile, fell into the waters of Lake Maurepas, and was lost. Big stout dowel is a better field choice! And it floats!

And hope to see how the shooting is at Talking Rock some time.

    Finished the Hawken

Shot the Hawken at the Griffin Gun Club today here in Georgia. Fine, helpful folks! I had a great time at a very nice facility. Still sighting it in, it is a work in progress. I’m amazed at how slow I am loading this thing. More work to do on selecting a load/patch combo. I also need to use a...

    Rig-is it good stuff

Doing an Inventory of the depths of my old shooting box. Some interesting finds. One is a small jar of Rig, which is labeled as a patch lube. Looks like axle grease to me. any recommendations, pro or con on this stuff?

How long do "pre-lubed" patches last?

This past week I shot using some very old patches. They had been well lubed when I put them away 20+ yrs ago. They were is a tightly sealed container, and stacked tight together, though. Seemed fine, and loaded ok

So the Spike Buck Antler was just sitting there

I have a Ruger Old Army I have had since they came out. I have always used filler in the cylinders on top of the 20/grain loads I shoot. I have used a collection of small spoons before, and always made a mess. Plus, hit or miss on the amount. So I took an old cartridge case, and a piece of...

    What did you do today

Worked on an old powder horn I made back in 1979. ( my first) It is a dark horn, and I attempted cutting in some lettering. noticed it hanging there in the shop, and decided to refresh the lettering I scratched in so long ago. Very crude, but my first attempt when I was a much younger man.
