    Comer's Gunworks

I do have to ask that since you defarbed the P53 and Bess, why didn’t you square the little wings on the lock screw escutcheons and remove the LA Co markings? And you forgot the lock panels on the Bess.

Where should I Get My Miroku Charleville Defarbed?

That would be your best bet to get one that is true to form.

Where should I Get My Miroku Charleville Defarbed?

You aren’t going to get any mass produced reproduction to pass the 1 foot test. You would have to get Rifle Shoppe parts or original parts to do that. If you are hesitant about slimming down lock panels you aren’t going to want to tackle a TRS kit.

Sounds like a golden opportunity to figure out how to do it, and then have some skills to market.

Unfortunately I don’t. Have you asked Flinternick? I do all my own stuff.

Why does a ML need a serial number? Remind me to cut your price in half if you ever sell yours. Some people 🙄

    Kibler Brown Bess?

I would personally say the 1748 could be considered a separate pattern since the rammer was a major improvement, which seems to be what differentiates the patterns. I don’t feel as if a minor part modification should determine a pattern though. Eric Goldstein does a good job explaining such in...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

Of all groups, reenactors SHOULD know and care about the differences. 1730 or 1742 muskets would be largely worn out by 1777.

The Rifle Shoppe interview and tour

They aren’t going to hire anyone. It’s a family business on family land. I’m glad they are close enough to go visit every few months. I’ll be sending in an order for a couple of French trade locks soon.

Rebuilding an india made mle. 1777 "charleville" musket

You will definitely need these. Will also need a new buttplate.

    Kibler Brown Bess?

I do know the US government bought commercial 1793 Bess copies, circa 1799-1801. They were marked Tower and had no other British markings (maybe commercial proofs). There were 9500 bought. I’ll need to go see if they were standard bore size or not, but it seems they probably were as the Marines...

Where did you get the info that the P1793 and P1809 were ever .69-.72 caliber? Everything I’ve read has said they were closer to .74-75.

Oh contraire. Every surplus musket put to the market sold. Even well into the cartridge era. They were very affordable guns to those of lesser means.

    Kibler Brown Bess?

They weren’t rifles, they were smoothbore muskets.

I don’t disagree and the differences were not major, but the 1769 went out of proportion in 1777 with the new model of that year taking its place. The 1777 was made in massive volumes for the times, was even contracted in Belgium and was the late war musket.
