    ramrod tip ?

I recommend you use the nubby starter on your short starter. Ive found when using this, the patch gets folded over the top of the ball and that in turn lessens the chance of the patch catching on your jag on your 4” short starter and the jag while seating the load.

    ramrod tip ?

Look for jags on TOTW, the tips are for mounting on ramrods with female threads. They have every size and variety of jags for the ends of ram and range rods.

    Casting Help!

All good tips. I started with a Lee bottom pour that worked fine for smaller projectiles. Once I started pouring 58 cal minies and 54 cal. Rd ball, I realized the larger pours turned out better with a ladle. To cut the sprue, I used a 1 1/4” dowel. To add inertia, I drilled a 1/2” hole in...

Nipples: To Remove Or Not Remove

I’d pop a cap to check the powder channel is clear, and point in a safe direction in case it’s loaded. I shoot an old smooth bore rifle 50 cal., 160 to 200 years old. Found the thread in the drum to be 1/4 X 28. There are many thread varieties available, you’ll have to find the right one...

    dumb ram rod questions

I recommend the longer jag, with a taper directly behind the jag end. This taper allows the patch some room while cleaning the barrel. The short (button jag) can and will sometimes jam a patch in the bore, which in turn holds the rod in the bore. I have no opinion on the cutting of rod, I’ve...
