    December 2023 Postal Match

Most fitting! My father came home with a broken 50 cal. smoothbore mid 1950’s having spent the day building a pigpen. Around 2000, I got the parts needed to rebuild and shoot it. Members of OSMLC named it, “Sooo—Wee”!

    Tumbling minié balls. Advice please

I have a Lyman 575213 mold that casts minies with a thin skirt. I shoot a 1863 Bridesburg musket. I also shot 60 -65 grains 3F with limited success. An NSSA member recommended cutting back to 50 grains and I saw an improvement. Notice dave951 target. He notes 40 gr 3F at 50 yds. give 40...

    Lead pouring blues

Was the lead soft? Looks like it deformed the sprue hole when you cut it. I cut my sprue as soon as the lead shows hardened. Was the rd ball in the mold a long time? Have to say, I’ve never seen a mold deform like that. I’d contact the dealer and ask them about it. I cast harder...

    November Postal Match Target

Placed 1st in the 100 yd target 42/50, placed fifth overall. Always have that single miss that hurts the total score.

    November Postal Match Target

We had 11 I believe. 6 targets, 5 rifle, 1-100 yd, 2-50, 3-25 yd. 5 shots each. 1-25 pistol 10 shots. (Pistol target optional). Get there 7-7:20 AM, set target stand, get acquainted. Shooting starts at 8, done by 11 AM. A great group of people. Next shoot 12/9, Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club.

    November Postal Match Target

Shot Rifled and smoothbore off hand today. Guess I need a donut spare tire to score higher. Shot them at the end of the monthly match in Jacksonville, Fla. Good news is I got one of the shooters interested in the Forum. Smoothbore score 15, Rifled 20. Thanks, Gary!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Chose to change the sights on my Renegade with GM barrels to a light bench gun. Had the Lyman peep sight and one covered front sight for the 50 cal barrel. Decided to order an additional front sight for the 40 cal. And went on the Lyman site to do just that. Website shows sight in stock, so I...

Fixing the set trigger on CVA Trapper

I just got an email from Traditions. The sear arm is bent to better engage the trigger mechanism.

Fixing the set trigger on CVA Trapper

Therein lies the confusion. In the original post it’s claimed to be a CVA Trapper, but the person later says it says Traditions on the barrel. It’s my understanding that CVA and Traditions were made in the same factory for a number of years. A photo of the entire pistol has never been shown...

Fixing the set trigger on CVA Trapper

Just sent a picture of my sear arm to Traditions, my sear arm is also bent. Since the trigger bar marks have moved up the arm, I don’t believe it’s by design. This post made me look closer at my Traditions Trapper.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Pulled the lock on my Traditions Trapper while cleaning. Purchased in 2019, the arm on the sear has a bend to it, never noticed (or looked for) it before. Sent a photo to Traditions and asked if it was by design or a defect in the metal. I’ll let the forum know once a response is received.
