If Your Shooting Competition Check Your Targets!

Just wondering how you got this scored target; had you protested the score? Once I put my targets in the collection box, I never see them again.

    Stay In Your Lane!

Shooting at it is one thing, Did he hit your Buffalo? I was 49 points away from a perfect score on da beast. Took out his right front hoof, 1 point.

    Stay In Your Lane!

Horse poop! Relays take long enough without another time wasting process. I’ve shot at many ranges, some with numbered lanes, but have never had to announce my lane. Common sense and consideration for other shooters should prevail.

    are bores tapered ?

Since it’s a minie and doesn’t engage rifling (theoretically) until the powder charge explodes, I’d be suspicious. Try different powder grade and grain. I use 50 grain of 3F for Hodgkin and 585213 at 50 and 100 yds. I’ve found more powder does not improve minie accuracy. Try patch and ball...

Spent the day cleaning my musket, Hatfield and Golcher having shot for 3 days in Lenox, Ga. Did a pre clean on the range, but did the final at home. In 3 weeks, they get dirtied again at the NC State Muzzleloaders Championship in Fayetteville, NC. Crosse Creek Rifle and Pistol, check them...

Ball calibers and diameters make no sense.

Buy a bigger gun safe or one for pistols, one for rifles!

how to remove rust from breech?

Maybe I’m wrong, but that looks like a patent breech. Get a 22 cal. Brush, wrap patch and solvent on it and see if it goes into the small hole in the center of the breech plug. Youl’ll know if when you withdraw it, the patch will be compressed into the brush and it’ll be dark with crud. To...

My first rifle returned after years but..

I’m with group that says shoot it. I bought a Pedersoli Pa. Rifle that had been shot and not cleaned. I cleaned the barrel with a range rod and various size jags and materials (steel wool to Emory cloth). to get the BP popcorn out of the barrel. Even slightly flawed the gun shot fine. In your...

Filling in voids and mistakes for a inletting project.

Installed an L&R RPL lock in my Hatfield and had the same issue. I emailed a photo of the misfit and was told they’d never had a complaint. I offered to send my original lock plate to them for a reference, they weren’t interested. I also had to file the recess for the drum to get the lock to...

    Prices…….

Went to my local Walmart with a pic of their percussion cap label. They can’t even order them in this area. But he knew what they were. A friend scored me 8 tins while visiting West Virginia.

Installing set trigger in an 1800’s original rifle

That’s the route I’ve chosen to take, tuning the lock. The lock does have a fly and a solid half cock.

Installing set trigger in an 1800’s original rifle

I recently purchased a rifle, that with a rear action Golcher lock and barrel that exhibits 2 UK proofing stamps. So, I figure it’s an original from the mid 1800’s. It shoots very accurately, but has a single action trigger with a considerable pull weight. Considering installing a single set...

    New Oldstock Goex pistol powder

I keep the metal can and pour plastic canned powder into them. Just find them easier to handle and my spouts and safety covers work better.
