Strange Day for Me in the Woods.

Wonder what the funeral directors do with all that metal after cremations?

    Still reading print media?

Most all my reading now is computer or Kindle due to age related eye disease. Still struggle with Muzzle Blasts in print.

Two Feathers, reply to in the hospital.

Glad you are doing better! You are salt of the earth. Please do not think poorly of yourself. Our prayers and best wishes for your wife. Wife and I recently sat for an hour with the surgeon and I decided against a new knee for now. Your wife has a tough road and it was not one I wanted to go...

FOR SALE EarIy 19th Century Razor

Be very wary of professional sharpeners. Run away from one with electric machines. That razor may want a little work on a fine stone and then a leather strop. Grew a beard starting the day I had my discharge. Minimized my razor maintenance.

    Rabbit hunting and gear

Got a hunch the barn cat kills more bunnies than the dog and I.

    Making a flintlock waterproof …

Cow's knee over a wax sealed pan. Depending onhumidity and severity of rain? Replace the prime as often as is convenient. As you work at it during a wet day, wonder why you did not buy a caplock for bad weather.

    cheek slapper

US Army basic training in '66: There were not enough M14's and M16's to go around. We did basic with the M1. We were taught the secrets to taming recoil were: 1) Pulling the butt tight into your shoulder socket. Then recoils is a push instead of a punch. 2) "Spot weld" your cheek to your right...

    Offhand Accuracy

I never pass up the opportunity to use a rest. With my long rifle I truly miss shooting with a leather sling like I do with unmentionables. But sling swivels on it would be as ugly as lipstick on a hog. And those slip on fabric slings won't give you the sought after stability.

Ya' never know what's up there.

Here in Southern Lancaster county I am beginning to think the deer population is getting out of hand. It is rural and people do hunt. But very many of the hunters go to camps upstate. My wife has had an unusual amount of deer damage in her garden this season. I walked into our dining room and...

    Two feathers in the hospital

May the Lord bless and speed you back to good health. I just hate news like this because it always happens to the good and undeserving.

    About your hunting rifles

    Pretty is as pretty does!

What caliber and style for you?

Partial to .36 in a long rifle. It is a finicky PITA in some ways but I like to shoot it. Probably shoot my .58 long rifle more often for the comparative ease. These for plinking or range. Hunting I almost always take my percussion double.

    Stuck bore brush

Harbor Freight opened here recently and it is early days yet. But a lot of what I see looks better than what is on offer at Homey Depot and Lowes. Yes, I know. Damning with faint praise. On the other hand, I am a homeowner. Few of my tools will need the longevity of those owned by a tradesman.

    Stuck bore brush

Agreed. Brushes are special purpose tools not necessary for ordinary cleaning. But Hoppes et al make a nice dime selling them.

What is the grip material? Hopefully not plastic.

Flintlock or percussion for a first purchase?

Depends on your patience and persistence levels. Need more of both to start out with flint. The percussion cap makes it a bunch simpler.

    Where To Find BP Supplies

Guess no merchant in Edmonton saw a profit in it.

    Where To Find BP Supplies

Depends on whether a local merchant sees enough demand to make it worthwhile. EG Local hardware in Oxford PA built a brick structure on their grounds to store BP in.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

Plain is my preference. That said, I have an old German Cape gun that is as ornate as a cuckoo clock. I like it.
