    Any good powder sales?

Every now and again I will look at powder prices and break them down to a load in my ML.. Often the price per pound does not mean diddly. Had a sign over my desk before I retired. "Price. Quality. Service. Pick Any Two." I go with a quality vendor. For me, quality and service trump price.

    Be advised....

All true. But how much of your own time is invested in driving/searching? If you had to pay yourself for that time what would it cost you at, say, your current or last rate of pay? And few of us know how much of our time we have left. It is rural here. The nearest Walmart that has caps is 20...

    Be advised....

Not going to drive around checking various Walmarts and other outlets. Local hardware usually has powder and caps. If they don't I'll go online and let the UPS truck burn the gasoline.

    Kicks like a MULE

Shoulder or upper arm. Pull the butt tight against you before firing. Recoil should be felt as a push. Not as a jolt. Practice this at the range. Let it be 2nd nature when hunting. Poor recoil management on a dove field can ruin your week.

    Please help identify this cannon

I would have bought it had I seen it locally. Not sure what @mhb means by a weak breach closure, but a half cup of cannon powder should make a nice signal charge. Don't think I'd load projectiles without having the barrel tested somehow. Magnaflux maybe?

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

Flint vs bow and arrow? Maybe the better question is hunter/gatherer vs agrarian settler.

    Smoothbores, 12ga. vs. 20 ga. ?

Waterfowl 10 or 12 GA. Upland 16 GA. Doves 20 GA. Ruark was writing about big game in Africa, but "Use Enough Gun" applies on any continent or game.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

Harder to train archers than riflemen. Hard to tote as many arrows as you can round balls with powder. Never saw a bayonet mounted to a bow.

    Too nice to shoot.

Before I retyired, there was an axiom at work which said the profit is made in the purchasing. If you want to invest in guns, I would bear that in mind.

    Too nice to shoot.

Collecting guns is one thing. Investing in them is a fool's errand. Plenty of more productive spots to park your money. But if you see something valuable on the table with the used clothing, gimcracks and gewgaws at a yard sale go for it. Never going to happen for me because I don't do yard...

Right hand or left hand shooter? 🤔

Was a lifelong RH shooter until a detached retina reduced my right eye acuity to 20/500. Have done a lot of LH shooting to train myself. Pellet and .22 caliber unmentionables help with the cost. Doing enough shooting with a ML to acquire the newskill couild be tedious.
