    2024/2025 All hunting chat?

Game warden told me I could put em up if I wanted to, but in Alabama, sign or no sign, they have to have written permission on their person or they are trespassing, and I ain't writing no permission slips LOL. He also said they'll just shoot the signs as an act of defiance LOL. Animals.

    2024/2025 All hunting chat?

Not a problem 👍 Part of my problem is the distance - it's 85 miles one way from my house to the entrance to the property. The game warden has my contact info and I have not heard from him, so maybe gating it off worked; we'll see. Since I put that one gate in, which is about 1/2 mile down an...

I'm going to migrate over to room temp water instead of hot to try to mitigate flash rusting. We'll see how it works.

    2024/2025 All hunting chat?

A herd of 13-15 reside in my neighborhood. In my back yard all night, generally bedded down, they leave at daybreak when work traffic racket picks up. This morning took the dog out and two were still hanging around. It was a nice 8 point with a funky tall upright rack and a doe, uhh, how shall I...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

My uncle had the prettiest matched pair of small runt-sized redbone hounds you ever saw, brother & sister, perfect duplicate red dogs, chop mouthed yippers, pure pleasure to hear and see them work a tree with a squirrel in it. LOL the squirrel didnt know what to do, would whip around like on a...

Ed, You want more eyes than nose with a squirrel dog. Those feists keep their head up into the trees. Also, that yappy bark is THE sound of squirrel hunting LOL!

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Agree, Ed. Cherished memories of youth, running the ridges and hollows with my little dog, oh man if I could go back in time... When I was a boy, the Feist ruled squirreldom! The prototypical squirrel dog! All the best squirrel dogs the boys had were Feists. The wrong dog, and you're just...

Scare them hah. We're talking Neanderthals here. These people look like Humongous's crew from the Road Warrior movie. I'm ashamed to say I suspect some of them are my own family.

    2024/2025 All hunting chat?

@andy52 I've got 78 acres with totally opposite problems. I had poachers and garbage dumpers running in and out willy nilly, mudding in the creek and cutting doughnuts and cutting trees down. I put up a gate and I'm giving the key to no one until I can get control of this. Call me rat if you...

    2024/2025 All hunting chat?

I was hunting over a scrape and a buck came over the ridge, came running down right to the middle of the scrape, and started doing his buck thang, thrashing overhead bush limb with his antlers, urinating, etc. BANG he crumpled up and fell straight down like a sack of hammers without taking a...

    Honest opinions on Kibler rifles

@OlSwede , nice fowler. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever;" is the first line of the poem Endymion, by John Keats, first published in 1818. And that concludes your lesson in English Romantic Poets for today, kids. yellowhammer out.

    Crosshatch wood

Thanks Jim. Yep, I used your iron nitrate. I wanted a lighter color this time to get out of my dark wood rut :). Jekyll/Hyde - chatoyance effect makes it go dark in the shade:
