    Ramrod difference??

I’ve never noticed a difference unless you leave a jag on the end or the ramrod somehow extends past the end of the barrel.

    Hello from Wyoming

Welcome from Alaska! Wyoming is my home state. Good place to get into black powder. Been shooting BP and rendezvousing many years. Looking forward to next year’s 1838 Rendezvous in Riverton.

    Old guy camping

Nice camp! I’ve been in all of the aforementioned camps as well and still do the horse with a small lean to. Don’t mine being cold but I don’t like being wet and it rains a lot in Alaska. Then there’s the bear factor. Sleep light and maintain a clean camp. Kind of like the mountain men back in...

    Powder Horn filling?

You can make a “tiny funnel” that attaches to the cap of your powder can easy enough. Use a .223 case with the base removed (hack saw will cut it off in just a few minutes) next drill a hole in the cap just slightly smaller than the case diameter so that it takes a little effort to push it...

Hunting loads for my .58 black powder rifle

That’s way too far for a muzzleloader. Roundball range should be 100 yard max. They weren’t designed to shoot game at 180 yards. Sure, I can hit a gong at 300 yards but then I’m not trying to kill it, just ring it and it doesn’t really matter where I hit it or hope hard I hit it as long as it...

    Pedersoli flintlock not cocking

I bought an 1803 Harpers Ferry Pedersoli pistol from Dixie a couple of years ago and had problems from the get go with it. The geometry on the lock was wrong from what I could see as the cock when fully released was in more of a half cock position so I wasn’t getting much if any spark and it...

    Loading from the pouch?

Use a short starter and a good hickory ramrod. Grip ramrod 8”-10” above the barrel and use short strokes to get the ball seared. You can mark your ramrod so that when in the field you’re not guessing. Only put what you need for the day in your bag. Loose patches and balls. You can use a flint...

Got #11 CCI caps in Walmart today

I’m now making my own percussion caps. I go to the range a minimum of once a week and shoot anywhere between 20 and 50 shots. I shoot a lot of flintlock but shoot my percussion rifles too. A tin of 100 caps only lasts me a couple weeks at best…..now that I’m retired my definition of a good week...

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

I have some of mine on display in my office upstairs. Not that I’m hiding them but the “better half” says I already have too much other stuff hanging in the family room and the rest of the house is hers. We made that deal years ago and it has served us well.

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

Beautiful rifle….I have three custom built flintlocks. They are beautiful to look at. Pieces of art yes, but I had them built so I could shoot them and shoot them I do…
