    For those interested, here’s a dang close copy (if not exact) of the Perkins-Shively Bowie which I believe Rezin had made (by Mr. Shively of Philadelphia) possibly as early as 1828. The original is in possession of the Mississippi Historical Society. Some believe ( notice I wrote some) that this...

    FishDFly wishes to see more knives. Here is my "crew served" example! Crafted by Mr. Nathan Allen of Indiana. Not particularly a copy of any original blade. And its sheath I fabricated;

    Wanted Single Pole Tent

    This statement is open certainly open for discussion. But while reading thru the diary of a Spanish priest accompanying the Journada of the Marquis de Aguayo (1720) along one of the Camino reals he notes that during a storm "the tent pole" of one of the soldados was struck by lightening. I...

    SOLD .45 Ohio Style Rifle

    Well they always would shoot. And they have a cult following down here. He was from the old school that was making stuff before commercial items were available. C. P. Russell utilized him and his rifles in his epic "Firearms, Traps, and Tools of the Mountain Men"

    1792 Contract rifle.

    LOL! Much Activity centered around the City of Natchitoches Louisiana. Cool spot with lots of cool history. There is a reason the city sprang up where it did. When Pike was released by the Spanish he made his way up the Camino real. Crossed The Colorado here in my neck of the woods. There was a...

    1792 Contract rifle.

    Thanks 4575. No sling swivels for me. I do not like them. They get in my way. For what I do they would not be correct anyway. I don’t know if they had any on the ill fated Freeman-Custis expedition. I would be more apt to try something along those Lines as I would Corps of Discovery

    1792 Contract rifle.

    I didn’t build it but it has a GM 7/8" by .50 cal. bbl. Weighing in right at 8 pounds. Not unpleasant to shoot or tote around in the woods. It was built by Dr. Gary Peterson.

    I have personally enjoyed the sister thread started by 4575WCF. Was curious as to who out there other than myself owns a recreation. I realize there is ample Fantasy and artistic license in the recreation of such rifles. But I wanted something to fit in with my interest in those early filibuster...

    1792 Contract Rifle in Original Flintlock

    "One of the four rifles, by Dickert, originally had a patch box cover nearly identical to that on the later 1803 rifles." I find this very interesting! Thank you for mentioning this!!!! Articifer, I’ve never minded the recoil of a 50 calibre RB in the slew of 50 calibre rifles Ive own thru...
