    Got it now, thanks 👍

    58 Caliber Smooth Rifle

Crisco Kid, That's one good looking smoothbore. I prefer them plain and business like myself. When that gun gets a little honest wear and patina on it, it's going to look even better. Nice job.

    50 cal smoothbore

Give it a try, we only live once. I've wanted to build a 28 guage for a while now, no time. I would say it's about time, even if I didn't build my own

    50 cal smoothbore

Hey, thanks Bill! I'll read it tomorrow on my lunch break. I wanted to shoot it a bit this weekend, but had a club swap meet and 22 woodswalk to set up and run, my weekend wasn't my own. I'll get a report up ASAP

    Small pawnshop find

    50 cal smoothbore

Thanks, I think I can find a cardboard beer box or two! I'll wring it out and see how it performs. Appreciate your advice, you seem to have a pretty solid handle on the small smoothbores

    Winter at the range

If you still have a nagging doubt, go look at past posts by 45D. He's definitely pushed a few ubertis hard (20,000 psi+) with that modern, fad, "S" propellant and bullets wearing copper diapers. That should remove any doubts. The ubertis are good guns.

    50 cal smoothbore

Wouldn't be much different than a modern .410 to my way of thinking. Besides, I like #4 shot, it should blow clean through within range

    50 cal smoothbore

Thanks Britsmoothy, the load info I got with it said .480 ball and 50gr 3f. I've had the same thought about range, and I can keep the range pretty close behind the house, like 30 feet close. A wad punch came in the mail today, I'm going to try some thin cereal box cardboard for wads. What do you...

An Abomination? Not For Sensitive Viewers

I'm going to try to be positive, but it's not easy. The only positive thing I can think of is that it's getting a new shooter involved in "traditional" muzzleloading. Most shooters of the camo mindset don't realize that turkeys were nearly extinct from being shot by guys NOT in camo. Hopefully...

    50 cal smoothbore

Ok, but if I'm going to sell it already, you might not like the price!!! 😳 I'm just now sorting out the ammo, got a wad punch on the way. I'm looking forward to shooting it, it should be fun. I appreciate your concern for me, thank you. What a thoughtful group we are! 🤣

    50 cal smoothbore

I just picked up this 50 cal smoothbore. It's slim and trim, and light in hand. The makers stamp looks like J. W. Heckert. It's a beautiful gun, and I would like to contact the maker. Does anyone here know of this person?

    Winter at the range

    Nope. Not ever a concern.

    Nice pair of revolvers. 👍

    Which Uberti Colt 1851 Navy?

Those 51s sure are good lookin and handling revolvers, have fun with your new revolver. Not much better than a new gun or knife

Open Top Colts - Hammer Touch

Isn't that the truth! Rich44, nice work! I know what you mean about having projects. I was out in the workshop tinkering as soon as my Dad told me what tools I could use and not use. Keeps my mind and hands healthy, but maybe not the wallet!😃😃

Open Top Colts - Hammer Touch

I don't get this. We're playing with inexpensive repros, not originals. They're not very valuable to begin with and I look at them as good raw material to be tinkered with. You're spot on Mike, your tuned revolvers will hold their value much more so than a factory gun.

    Non-convertible BP Revolver

I'll add to that list. To the best of my knowledge, Starr single action and Rogers and Spencer haven't had conversions made for them, but both are tough to find. Your best bet is probably the Cattleman mentioned above. ANYTHING can be converted if you want to, those laws are like most...

Making a wedge for the 1860

I've heard this a hundred times. Sometimes I make things because I don't want to wait, or I can make it cheaper or higher quality. They aren't that difficult and could be made with only a hacksaw and a file if necessary.
