    The Crossen Cartridge Former

I don't make traditional style cartridges, but the bottom line is that they're FAST. These don't take long and shoot well. I carved the formers from maple tree in my yard.

Looks like that sweet deal just got sweeter. Nice find, who cares that it doesn't follow a set pattern, it's a shooter! Good boy, Oakley. Give him a treat!

French Colonial, if you want to see a gun shot without the wedge in place, send me your favorite revolver, I will be glad to launch your barrel and probably your cylinder into the gravel at the range. And I'll even film it so everyone here can see the show. All at no charge, I'll provide the ammo. 🤣

I would like to see it too. As to how it would not tie up the cylinder, I would set the gap with a feeler gauge as you do. Then, drop the spacer back in and shoot l again. This is my thoughts also. It didn't take long to fit the spacer, now it's done forever. I adjusted the front sight to...

Wow, MedicMike, Your first paragraph nailed it! Here's a thought; we've kicked this back and forth till we're all blue in the face, yet it's come up again and we're going back and forth again. Damn opinionated old guys... Does anyone know of slow motion video of the firing sequence of cap n...

Sorry, but no. What about the breech thrust, the cylinder pressure rearward against the standing breech? That equal but opposite thing from physics.

    The Crossen Cartridge Former

Yes, definitely saves time at the range. That time saved is used during other time to make the cartridges. It's kind of a wash, but for those that enjoy it, we don't do it for a savings, it's a hobby within a hobby, like making your own fishing tackle or archery equipment. 👍

I bet they would, big time!

The barrel is going to bounce back and forth during the firing cycle. Also, so will the cylinder. The cylinder is heavy, it will bounce back and forth like a slide hammer, that's probably what beats up the wedge. Just my thoughts.

This is a good point. When the gun is loose and pounds wedges, the wedge is the weak link. So, with a hardened wedge, what becomes the weak link now? The end of the arbor, maybe?

I rarely take the nipples out. When I put them in I put grease on them and screw them in. I've been using white lithium grease or wheel bearing grease, either works fine. I clean with hot water out of the faucet, no soap. The grease stays put, fouling can't get in.
