    Draw filing.

Files are far more involved than people realize. I agree that a mill file is the way to go and by definition a mill file is a single cut file. American pattern files follow this nomenclature with respect to coarseness (from coarse to fine) Coarse, *******, Second Cut and finally Smooth. Add to...

    Don't Carve That Stock!

Why can’t you have both? Aesthetics are important to me, a botched up job detracts from any firearm regardless of its accuracy or lack there of.

    Trouble cleaning one groove.

Being a perfectionist sux, doesn't it? I am in many ways but perfectly clean patches are not one of my issues. I agree with 64 Springer...the bore is clean, lose no more sleep, it ain't worth it!

Picked up a nice vise on a local auction

A Simplex Gray 43S. From what I could find on the Net, I believe the vise was made between 1924 and 1931. Though not totally clear I think "gray" was dropped from the name when Desmond-Stephan took over the company. I then see reference to Desmond Simplex vises. I paid $97...I think I got a...

Midway order came in today - 1851 Navy replica

Pietta got it with the free shipping code so with PA tax it was less than $300. 7 1/2" bbl, steel frame, plastic grip. Thanks to Phil Coffiins excellent tutorial on making a grip for Colt replicas...it won't have a plastic grip for long. I think this will be my 3rd Colt grip. Not sure what...

    Some real old prices

My first job was pumping gas in the early 70s, gasoline was in the $0.30 per gallon range. However to make that fact easier to take, my job paid $1.81 per hour. I’m still working and I make a bit more than that now but I’m not pumping gas. The sad thing is that I fear that before too long we...

    Installing wood inlays

Crow, you want to make the bottom of the inlay smaller than the top sorta like putting a tapered cork in a test tube. But do keep the taper small, I’d eyeball it at about 5-ish degrees. It should take a while, in other words, don’t rush it, take off only wood that shows indication of your...

    Installing wood inlays

I have not watched any of the vids and they might have already said what I am about to but...I have done my fair share of inlaying both wood and metal into pistol grips and rifle stocks so I can relay a few pointers that help me do a clean job. #1 file a slight taper, very slight, on the piece...

If 'lines' in Springs cause them to break ... then WHY do these work?

Don’t know the answer but that is some beautiful workmanship!

Best Stain for Figured Black Walnut?

I hope the number of posts suggesting that you don’t stain the walnut have convinced you not to do so. IMO staining a nice piece of walnut is akin to painting your new BMW with spray cans from Walmart because you don’t like the color.

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

But, but, but…Bidenomics works, that’s what he said so it must be true! I mean if you take the “vaccine“ you can’t get or spread Covid. Remember, he is a devout Catholic, that means he doesn’t lie. Period, end of story. Don’t you watch the news?

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

I read that should you ever need to send credit card numbers or social security number via email that you should split the number up and send it over 2 emails. Maybe some computer smart member can tell us if that is valid or bogus advice.

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

I think that it is wise to only pay with cash and I believe that it is not wanted by the NWO clowns. However as another poster put it, our whole world economic system will one day be a “cashless society“. How else can the psychopaths know and control everything. Though I find his stand...

Why Are So Many Guns For Sale Here?

Those who get what I have acquired in my life after I’m no longer breathing will have little or no concept of what is of greater or lesser value. I tried once to school them but I think that I heard my words bounce off the wall as they sped through their heads. For firearms collections I see a...

    Anyone help on scotch bright

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P16XK0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the finest of the 3 step "bodyman" scuff pads that I purchased from Amazon. I use this one for the final several (sometimes more than several) coats of Tru-Oil. They come in a roll and I cut...

    Spray stain.

I have added oil based stain to Tru-Oil when spraying it with an airbrush and it works well. Usually I have to thin the Tru-Oil whether or not I’m using stain, for that I use naphtha.
