    Stock finish with tru-oil

I can attest that the formula has changed. I spray Tru-Oil with an airbrush. In years past I used to be able to thin it with lacquer thinner, Don't know when the formula changed but I now have to use naphtha. I'm going to do the wet paper towel test and let it sit overnight, I'll report my...

It happened again today at the public range...........

Good story! I did have a fellow shooter wonder aloud if my stainless ROA was actually BP. I had to lower the loading lever to show him that I wasn't kidding. Not BP related but I was at a public range and had a revolver I was shooting. A man came over and asked if his daughter could shoot it as...

    Black powder revolver for protection

Yeah, a 7.5" ROA would be a beast to carry. I think it was Blackie Thompson who called the ROA a modern Dragoon. Surely similar in size.

    Stock finish with tru-oil

I don't think that Flint625smoothie is thinking about Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil. Maybe he is thinking of boiled linseed oil..?? I have finished innumerable stocks with Tru-Oil and have never had them get "sticky". I just did a wet test and put a sopping wet folded up paper towel on a buttstock...

    Black powder revolver for protection

You say "does anyone carry one just in case." Just in case of what? I see no reason to handcuff yourself with a BP revolver when much more practical defensive firearms are readily available. Plus...if you are a lube over ball guy, carrying one in a self defense style holster (often in the...

How did the Vega get in that mix? …Marriage?

    Polished brass?

Hey whatever the owner of the firearm in question likes is what he or she should do. Shiny or dull…who cares. Chocolate vs vanilla IMO.

    Polished brass?

Incralac, used on bronze statues etc. Incralac (water and solvent-based) I have used the solvent based product but don’t know how it would hold up to a lot of handling like on a trigger guard. But it is a great product for keeping copper bearing metals from tarnishing. I never used the water...

The Words We Use and How They Define Us

I heard or read that a pistol refers to an auto-loading handgun and a revolver is, well, a revolver but both are handguns. Seems now that any handgun is now called a pistol..?

The Words We Use and How They Define Us

I worked at a gas station when I was about 16-ish. What used to wind my watch is when old timers would come in and ask for “motor” that meant “regular”. Worse than that is when they would ask for “5 of motor”. So I’d put in $5 of regular and go up to get paid and they would say “I meant 5...

    too complicated

I email photos from my Apple I-Phone to my Comcast email address, open the email on my PC and download it to someplace I will know where it is at. Start your post on this forum and click the "Attach Files" orange bar at the bottom of you new post, use the directory that pops up to select the...

    too complicated

Years ago (I was younger and more trusting) I sent $7300 to a man in Utah to purchase a motorcycle that he had listed in Motorcycle Trader magazine. No guarantee or go between to ensure that the sale was legitimate or that he would ship the bike. The bike arrived as described and I still own...

    Stock finish change

I also prefer a flat finish, no problem with a semi gloss finish but gunstocks and grips that look like they have a mirror, plastic-like finish are an assault to my eyes. But as my mother always said, “to each his own.“

    too complicated

I think that if in doubt about any transaction that using an FFL holder on both ends of the transaction would ensure a safe sale for both parties. I know many here are opposed to doing so but it surely is a valid option.

    TOTW, $ going NUTS

We all have items we purchased quite a while ago that could be sold for considerably more than the amount we purchased them for. However the value of the US dollar has declined so much that even if we got twice the amount of what we paid, are really ahead of the game? I don't plan on selling...

The Words We Use and How They Define Us

Not along the hunting lines but about word usage. I was speaking with a gentleman on the phone about restoring a motorcycle. I told him that I had "torn it apart" already... He coreccted most appropriately. He said, "You disassembled it and you can reassemble it. If you tear something apart, you...

Can anyone supply a list of states where a BP gun must go to an FFL holder?

BB guns...Insane! But what do you expect from Illinois? But, nonending Chicongo shootings/murders...Oh well, what can we say, nothing to see here...move along.

    Real black powder

And the reason you can't go into any Walmart or sporting goods store and pick up a can of BP is due to the insane storage laws required to store, thus sell BP. I guess there was an instance or two that gave the Government the opportunity to write those restrictive laws. But then again...maybe...
